GMC "A-Team" Van. The Chevy Van is getting a lot of exposure. May be Time to Dig up the GMC Version (with out the A-Team tie-in) and give us This version with it's unique parts and some Extra wheel and decals.

Problem is, the A-Team GMC body is different in details from the earlier versions, which were removed in the restoration. Roof ribs(why did they remove those?), grille, embellishment on the lower sides, sunroof, bumpers, flashed over cutouts for the Open Road camper. Many of these would have to be retooled back for the 82-up versions. But, I too wish the GMC would come back. It just won't be a simple change.

1978 Dodge Pickup. Find the 72/73 Grille and Hood and Back date it, to the Original  Baja Brute Kit. Or, just proceed with the 78 and give us the 4x4 version that seems to have been planned. (It would be nice to get the Complete Baja Brute Roll Bar and spare gas tank back) The Brush Guard and Roll Bar from the "Thunders Truck kit would be great too!

Yes! More Dodge variations! Can I also add "Macho Power Wagon!"

The roof ribs were not on original Chevy van, or retool. Only A-Team
They retooled to dump optional windows and add porthole option after (I think) Open Road. Right around the time the Van stuff went nuts. The GMC van never had rear door windows, nor side windows. It does have the original early Chevy grille in the second issue. I have both issues of A-team, and I think the first issue (mine anyway) had no chrome. I’ll have to go to the crypt to find them, I know I had all the early Chevies (Rescue, Drag ‘73, Open Road). I didn’t have Police Van.
The side windows disappeared with maybe Sunchaser/Aquarod issues in 77-8?

Well, My suggestion is to Run What ever is in the GMC Van Tooling. If it is different, that's the way it is. I'm not looking for the A-Team Kit, just whatever is left in the tool.

Alan, that's pretty well what they've been doing with the Chevy van reissues anyway.

The cut outs for the sunroof and roof lights are still on the inside of the body, flashed over on the outside.

IIRC, the unique A-Team parts like the bumpers/grille, body kit, wheels, etc. were on separate trees but it's been about 35 years or so, so?? MAYBE, if those were on separate trees, and they could find those, they could do an issue as a custom GMC van as others have suggested.

Interesting coincidence though, I just sent off the bumpers and grille from one of those for chrome plating last week. ?

Slight correction, it does have the extra body line but doesn't go through the front doors. I guess that started closer to the 90s as my 92 has it. It does have a separate chrome tree as well as the chrome tree that comes in the Chevy. 20221215_184300.jpg.5c0c34654c0761688905dc36d9f86f81.jpg20221215_184637.jpg.1296d4c36324c8153db0ccdcd73a3948.jpg

So, that tree came already plated in the Kit, Sean?

I've never seen that before. I've only had the original issue though, not the reissue from about 15-20 years ago.

I'm not sure how old mine is, but it seems like I got it forever ago. Yes it came plated. 20221215_191631.jpg.81c5a80ee8bed2a84542337762d3c457.jpg

Yup, definitely the reissue, the original issue had photos of the truck and the team on the box and it was molded in black.

I wish I had picked up a few now.

Is the A-Team Van getting to be Too Expensive, or Unobtainium?

Looks like I might want one.

And, Which Issue is better, First or Second?

The c.2003 reissue differs in these ways only:

1.) Moulded in (Godawful) grey

2.) 'GMC' parts / A-TEAM-specific parts are plated (as are the originally-plated G30 parts - hubcaps, optional wheels, engine parts, etc.-, whereas the original, c.1983 issue was moulded in all black)

So, six to one...

Just for clarity for others, the A-Team specific parts in my picture are plated, but not all of the A-Team specific parts are plated. BA Baracus isn't chrome in the kit. :D

It would be nice if the ' Big Bad Van' was re issued. Seem to remember it being either 1/16th or 1/12th scale.

Perhaps someone reading this knows for sure?

Nice big slab sided vehicle to do some custom air brush work on.

2 I'd like to add. I don't know if Revell still has the tooling for these. The Jeep with dirt bike is in 1/16 and the Van is 1/24,

A lot of people felt they were too impractical because they were too top heavy. I can't say that I disagree with them. You probably wouldn't take one rock climbing like they do today. As a kid I always thought they were cool. I'm thinking I had to build that Desert Rat as a kid because I remember putting that rat decal on the tank of a chopper. Can't remember the kit that much.

Re: 4x4 Vans.

I've seen a couple of them on the road lately.

Both were newer looking, with large Roof Racks and a vaguely Commercial Air about them. No Company Names on the doors, but they were gray or white and did not look like "Pleasure Vans".

The Big Bad Van is 1/16th scale. Revell did a couple of large vans, both have not been seen in quite some time, not sure if they would really sell anymore

Retool both of them to be a little less hideous looking and they might sell. I don't know why every company seems to mess with the stock '75-'77 Chevy van grill. IMO these were really nice looking. And that side door on the Big Bad Van has to go.

Also, I like any van model that has a lift off roof so that you can show off that custom interior. After all, that's part of the reason vans got so popular back in the 70s. Gas prices and insurance premiums killed the whole muscle car craze and people were on to the next thing. Nobody bought a van because of the performance.

I would buy it because it's a van, but would prefer something closer to stock. The Ford Econoline at least is closer to stock than those.

Yeah, sadly Revell didn't even come close to stock with their vans, the 1/25th scale van is basically a shrunken down 1/16th van. All custom with not stock parts.

I have both kits, actually most of the vans Revell made, and they are cool, but huge. And the MPC Ford Van is in 1/20th scale. Wish they would have done them in 1/25th as well.

The Movin' Out van looks like a repainted ambulance. ?

Well, it was the Big Rig influence of the times. Not their best work, but anything to sell a few more units!
