Old Coyote Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 ... this model was constructed for a club '57 Chevy build ....... rather than build the usual gasser, hotrod, or custom, I chose to replicate an original from the day ... As a youngster I worked in a large Texaco station and saw quite a few of these 150 utility sedans (in fact my dad's company supplied a couple of his adjuster's these cars) ....... and I never saw one with a V-8 ..... I knew the V-8's were offered but I never saw one The build is from a Revell Black Widow kit and was modified to hold a 235 cu.in. Blue Flame 6-cylinder from Ron Royston at Early Years Resin
Erik Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Nice - and mundane. Great job building an everyman's ride. I like the 6 too.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 This kit always builds up nice. You have a nice color combination.
gasser59 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Great build and I love the fact that you made something a bit different. The 6 is a nice touch and the color combo is perfect. This kit builds up nicely no matter what direction you choose.
Old Coyote Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Corrected the decals ........ was pointed out to me that I forgot to remove the "V" on the hood and trunk ........ that "V" designates a V-8 car
Greg Pugh Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 It's cool to see a different variation on this kit.
Dan Rosenello Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 You did a great job on this . The six makes me think Revell should offer a "mainstreamer" version of this kit.
Sixties Sam Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Very nice, John! I like those cars built stock, looking like an everyday car from the mid-50's. I built mine stock, too. I wished the kit had included a 6 cylinder engine too. Here's my 57 model built two years ago.
Dave Darby Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Very cool 150, John. I really like your build! Another thing different between the V8s and the sixes (and I'm surprized it didn't give you some trouble, is that the radiator on 55-57 Chevys on the six cylinder cars is mounted in front of the core support, as opposed to behind on the V8s. This one isn't 100 percent stock, but it illustrates the stock mounting location and why it's necessary.
Mister Twister Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Clean work as always John...I like the color combo.
Swifster Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Very nice. As mentioned, a car with a different color is really nice to see. You have to love the plain janes... Um, by the way, and this nit does not reflect the build, but as a license plate collector...Texas uses front and rear plates... Edited November 20, 2011 by Swifster
Wagoneer81 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Very nice... Steel wheels, inline six, basic trim package... a modest 'working mans' car... I love it! I really enjoy seeing builds like this, out of the mainstream, unmolested, no billet, no bling but a basic, nice, clean driver... a survivor. I'd be more than proud to own, drive and show the 1:1 version. Edited November 20, 2011 by Wagoneer81

Um, by the way, and this nit does not reflect the build, but as a license plate collector...Texas uses front and rear plates... How right you are ......... and as a native Texan I should have remembered that .......... have spent too many years in "one-plate" states (New Mexico, North Carolina, etc) .......... I'll see what I can do to remedy my mistake Edited November 20, 2011 by Old Coyote
Old Coyote Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Corrected .......... and yes, I know the registration stickers would only be on the back plate, but I can't change the decals Edited November 20, 2011 by Old Coyote
David G. Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I love seeing builds that reflect the way most cars actually looked. Excellent work on this one. David G.
rhs856 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I don't think I've ever learned so much from a thread: I had always thought the V was decorative and I never knew the six-cylinder had a different radiator placement.
Scalper Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Nice build. Great to see another kind of 57 chevy.
rmvw guy Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I remember these as well with the 6 banger. Always wanted one. Nice job!
