Austin T Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Ok I put a '69 GTO Judge next to a 1998 NASCAR ford Taurus.........Then I said can I combine those? 10 minutes later I had a name(Judgement day), a correct fitting chassis, and a paint scheme idea.I think it will look good painted up in olive drab with tiger shark decals to finish it off.So is it a good idea or is it just wierd?
Chuck Most Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I've had a similar idea (Revell Lincoln MKVII body on an AMT T-Bird Winston Cup chassis) so I think its a pretty cool idea!
Joe Handley Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) I cooked this up a while back And even started build of it too! If you look closely, not only is it wearing C5 Vette wheels, but I also cut up 2 C5 Vette kits from AMT for the basis too. And yes, it is "that" low Edited November 24, 2011 by Joe Handley
Greg Pugh Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Is there anything "weird" when it comes to the imagination and what's possible when building models?
Chuck Most Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Well... my Lincoln may idea may have been weird, but here's one I'm actually building... '75 AMC Matador body, riding on a stretched '98 Vette chassis (complete with the rear mounted transaxle), and a (possibly turbocharged) Viper V10 for power. Hows that for nuts?
highway Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Is there anything "weird" when it comes to the imagination and what's possible when building models? Greg, you haven't met my friend that built this! The first time I seen this, I actually asked my friend what he had been smoking and why he didn't share!! Seriously, the story behind my friend's madness that he calls the "Roadkiller" was truly like Austin had described, one thing led to another to another, and in this case it started with him watching "Mad Max" while he was at the bench. He then seen the Testors CheZoom Quickbuilder and the NATO missile set that were both recent show hauls (and I think I actually won the missiles but gave them to him because I didn't build anything but cars at the time) and that started "Roadkiller". A poor unfortunate Star Wars kit gave up the engines for the trunk! My ideas seem to be a little more "tame" than his, such as my 34 Ford Cabriolet that my friend named "10 in 5" for me, since it was just like trying to fit 10 pounds in a 5 pound bucket!! The main reason behind this is the fact my blood runs Ford Blue, and at the time I started this almost 12 years ago, I couldn't stand that the kit had a Chevy engine under the hood. What a disgrace! It started out that it was going to have a Boss 429, but I ended up winning a dragster at a show, so I saved the Stang from losing it's heart and decided blown madness was the way to go! And yes, the blower will fit under the hood!

I picked a couple of those recently and was thinking of doing the same, but with first gen Viper kits instead........and yes, the V-10 would stay there too! Got a Revell Monza "Street Machine" and I've thought a out combining it with a new Revell ZR-1 kit! You know Chuck, it's a good thing these are only in scale, can't you just see the purists frothing at the mouth if somebody destroyed multiple Vettes or Vipers to create these beasts in 1/1 O_O Edited November 24, 2011 by Joe Handley
Crazy Ed Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I cooked this up a while back Joe you really ought to restart that and build it as a Herse. Leave it in the Delivery style but add a Sun roof!
Chuck Most Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 You know Chuck, it's a good thing these are only in scale, can't you just see the purists frothing at the mouth if somebody destroyed multiple Vettes or Vipers to create these beasts in 1/1 O_O I'd applaud anyone who destroys a 1:1 Vette for any reason! Losing a Viper might make me sad, but not if it was used to build something cool.
Abell82 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 How about a Midengine Deora turned around so the back is the front ? For some reason that is one kit I think looks better from the rear?
The Creative Explorer Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I think my 911 front-V8 qualifies as weird, but cool
Rob Hall Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I have a weird one in my stash somewhere I need to finish someday..I started w/ a C5 Corvette years ago and started reworking the body into a mid-engined sports car..
Joe Handley Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I'd applaud anyone who destroys a 1:1 Vette for any reason! Losing a Viper might make me sad, but not if it was used to build something cool. Shouldn't be that hard to find a fleet of insurance write offs to start with at least, they're already "lost" anyway, so why worry about frankensteining a few together and cram them under a Van, Matador, or Monza.... To bad there wasn't a better Ford GT kit made, a couple of those would work nicely under inder that re-issue of the Ford Econoline kit
Joe Handley Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I think my 911 front-V8 qualifies as weird, but cool Somehow I think the purists would be coming for you too!
Chuck Most Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 How about a Midengine Deora turned around so the back is the front ? For some reason that is one kit I think looks better from the rear? I've seen that done with an Aerovette kit- I think it even had a wrecker boom on it! I'd say go for it.
Jantrix Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Yep, this is a Revell Monza kit that was Frankensteined onto a Pontiac stock car chassis. I had a blast building this and was one of the few that was done start to finish with no breaks for other kits.
Joe Handley Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 That's kinda what I want to do, but with the new Revell ZR-1. Looks like the fenderwells would need to be moved out to the corners further and the engine bay needs a total rework though.
Scott Colmer Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Here's a thread that is right up my alley. What-ifs are a fun pastime. Wish I could draw better. I plan to build these.... someday..... Cord boat tail - Sedan delivery. I wish I did a better job of pulling off sense of the boat tail being wedged. Hosted on Fotki 40 ford roadster with whale inspired design queues. Hosted on Fotki F-100 Gasser and Cab over. I have the parts for the cabover. Someone roughed out a body and gave it to me, but the bed got used in a group parts bash. Hosted on Fotki More TK The Brickmaster. Ivo Chassis with a 66 Lincoln body. Hosted on Fotki Lil Coffin Hauler. A pretty close rendition of this showed up in MCM after I posted this in the car art threads a years earlier. I think Brad Leisure (sp?) did it. It was neat to see. Hosted on Fotki Erik, The Porsche is cool. I remember seeing it before. Hey Chuck, Are you thinking of this?... Hosted on Fotki Great stuff in this thread gents. Hope to see more. Scott
Darin Bastedo Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 How about Project Alpha Lyrae, A pro touring stlye Vega with a Carbon Fiber chassis, sectioned body Chopped top and lenthened wheelbase? How about a 2012 Chevy Nova? How about a 1971 Dodge Charger Speedster? here is the Concept Drawing for Barely 'Cuda II... here is the concept drawing for a Ferrari Enzo Powered fenderless roadster I call "Brute Forza"...
Chuck Most Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Scott- I actually have a '65 Lincoln I've 'prepped for surgery' to make into something pretty close to your drawing! Mine might end up with an Allison W-24 though.
Joe Handley Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Those are pretty cool ideas, especially the Cord Panel!
Chuck Most Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 International mini-truck, anyone? Indy flavored A Roadster Chopped International Metro? Or a Sidewinder based International rpu? (Yeah, I really like Internationals.)
Ryan S. Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I think the real beauty of our hobby is that you really are only limited by your imagination. Since it's all just plastic, we have the ability to create things that aren't able to be done in real life, largely due to budget issues or engineering impossibilities. All it takes for us is a little glue, some skill and some time and we get to enjoy all the whacky and original ideas that we have, like some of those already posted. Some of my favorite builds that people show are the ones that are examples of imagineering. I think the only "rule", in our styrene word, is that there are no rules. Build whatever you want!
