'08SEAL Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Has anyone ever had so many spare parts left that they made a new model out of it? I have plenty of parts that I could make my own custom model. Did you ever do it? Post your pics here.
Joe Handley Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Don't see why not, I've seen it done with rc stuff, especially with the crawler guys. The monster truck I posted the pic of over in the so crazy it's cool thread, had enough parts to all but finish a new truck.
dragon3323 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 i have done two or 3 rc rock crawler with left over parts
Greg Pugh Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) If you're talking parts-box builds then yes, I built this '23 T-bucket out of odds-n-ends. The body and the front seat are just about all that's left of the original kit. In fact, what was left of the car almost ended up in the parts box itself but I started messing around with setting the body on the desk and positioning some wide whites in various positions until I got my juices flowing. I had a scratch-built Z'd frame a couple of hours later and I was on my way. Edited November 26, 2011 by gpugh1976
Darin Bastedo Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Barely 'Cuda was a parts box build. It used a sheet plastic chassis, with bits from a Revell Ferrari Enzo, A Monogram Callaway Corvette Speedster, a Revell Stingray III concept car, and a Monogram '71 Cuda Street machine. The only new untouched parts, were the pegasus wheels....
Jantrix Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 All the time. Nearly everything I build is some sort of kit bash so there is ALWAYS gobs of raided kits than can be combined in other ways.
Scott Colmer Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Lane , Here is a twist on the the same idea. For a couple years running a group of friends pulled their scrap parts and got together to built a parts box model in one afternoon. The rules for the Rat Plastic Thrash were use only parts from the pile, black spray primer, and spray metalizer. Grinding and cutting were allowed and encouraged. Here are some creations from those good times. A typical rat plastic pile. Chuck Most Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Wow... now I might have to try that Model A/'50 Effie thing....
walt francis Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 One of these days I have to finish my Rat willys
Agent G Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I built this from a spare '29 bodyand chassis, flathead from a '49 Ford, and a bunch of scratchbuilt parts. G
dragon3323 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Does this count? dude i love them good work on them
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Yeah, I'd be inclined to say those count.
Guest Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I've built a couple and I'll have to say that in both instances, I had more fun with them than I ever did building one out of the box! This one now has much better looking chrome reverse wheels from the Modelhaus and for some crazy reason, it's one of my favorite builds. Someday, I plan on giving this one a decent paint job, engine and wheel swap. I left the top unglued so that I can display it either way.
wgflatliner Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I have been contemplating about this myself. I found an "exciting tuner vehicle" Toyota 4runner but the chassis has it lowered if I follow the kit directions as if it's supposed to be sporty. I personally love the 4runner and if I had one I would lift it with some swampers. So I managed to get my mitts on some swamper tires. I just have to figure out how to make a custom frame with a lift to fit the tires. I also plan on doing it as if it was a show truck with the chrome and glitzy paint and interior. Thank goodness for spare parts bins.
