JamesW Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I haven't had a chance to check out my WalMart, but I'm pretty sure it's just for the holidays.
JamesW Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 From what I've heard on other forums.... $15-$16. Meijer is around the same, picked up the 66 Impala for $14.99 there.

Wayne Buck Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I WISH they would bring kits back to Wally world!! I spend a lot of time shopping at the new, HUGE one they built about 2 miles down the road from me. I remember the days when Wal-mart did have them... and every time I went, the selection got smaller and smaller... IMHO, they would still have them if only they had stocked stuff that people actually wanted. I'm planning on heading over there tonight, and if I do, I will let you guys know if I see anything.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Been there done that, I prefer to support my local hobby shop. Sorry, but that's how I feel.
Mooneyzs Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I haven't seen models in my local walmart for a long time. will have to take a look and see what I can find there. But I like going to hobby lobby or micheals so I can use a 40 or 50% off cupon on kits.
brad4321 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 If Walmart had models, I may be able to stand it in there for 5 minutes instead of the usual 1. Luckily, I have two LHSs closer than the nearest Walmart.
B-dub Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I don't really have a LHS the only one's I have do R/C stuff and cary maybe 5 models =/ and yeah I freaked out walmart had a nice selection and all for 10-15$ ! I picked up a 2002 camaro ss/35th and an 85 mustang SVO they also had a few other nice models but I made myself resist. they were picked through quite a bit seems like my area needs to carry them again... people apparently were buying the heck out of them. that's what I started to get but ended up containing myself and only got the mustang and camaro (I'm making a shopping trip with the gf that will bring me close enough to hobby lobby to stop by)
mr cheap Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 i to do not support the gaint stores .. ie corporations they are almost allways (porfits befor people).. .i will drive miles befor i go in a walmart ..usealy..
Rob McKee Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I am another fan of supporting the LHS. don't forget the big box stores don't carry the good paints, tools, after market accessories, etc. They are also very limited in selection. I think most of the kits they stock are the kits Revell is just trying to blow out fast.
B-dub Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I wish I had a LHS that stocked stuff I have to go almost 2 hours away just to get to hobby lobby and they don't even know what styrene is... I'm going to talk with the r/c guy and see if he'll possibly carry more stuff or if he can order me stuff at reasonable prices (instead of me buying offline) I bought 2 models from him and he seems really nice, knocked about 25 cents off my glue for no apparent reason haha
RickRollerLT1 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) DANG IT!!! I was jus there a week ago and no dice. Which type of wal-mart stores carry them? Prolly the former supercenters (which the only supercenter I got is in Valley Stream - land of the looneys) I don't really have a LHS the only one's I have do R/C stuff and cary maybe 5 models =/ and yeah I freaked out walmart had a nice selection and all for 10-15$ ! I picked up a 2002 camaro ss/35th and an 85 mustang SVO they also had a few other nice models but I made myself resist. they were picked through quite a bit seems like my area needs to carry them again... people apparently were buying the heck out of them. that's what I started to get but ended up containing myself and only got the mustang and camaro (I'm making a shopping trip with the gf that will bring me close enough to hobby lobby to stop by) Dosen't look like much, but at least the offerings are different and newer than what Michaels, K-mart, and AC Moore get in. BTW, did you know how much the SE 62 Impy was by any chance? I hope it's not $15 because I have one on order and i'll be really peed if I paid more than at wallymart if they have models. B-dub Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) nothing there was over $14.97 which is hard to see but in the pic. the classic cruiser vette was $11 there was another shelf full of $11 as well that were low detail kits like the vette I thought they were good prices I actually loaded my cart up thinking about buying almost all of them to trade off for other kits since they were cheap enough I could eat the cost of shipping and it be an even trade Edited December 3, 2011 by B-dub
martinfan5 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I am going to check my wally world to see if they have any

I think most of the kits they stock are the kits Revell is just trying to blow out fast. You've obviously never been to the LHS near me. They don't have the good stuff; I'm considering starting to buy online only. My interest is getting the items I want, not propping up some guy who can't be bothered to even get new stuff in a timely manner. I have always bought locally - I have made purchases on eBay, but only for rare/unusual/OOP models. I have never bought any new/in production model on line.
highway Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Huh? Translator, please. I don't know, I don't even think that language exists!!
Chuck Most Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Haven't set foot in a Walmart in about five years- hoping its at least that many years more before I do again. If ever. Luckily- my closest shop always tried to meet (or undercut, if possible) Walmart's prices on kits, and he still has some very good prices, even compared to online vendors. Consider the fact I don't need to pay shipping, and it's on the way to/from other businesses and people I see frequently anyway, guess where I go?
martinfan5 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 i find the "Walmart" arguement kind of entertaining. the model car side of the hobby has to be some of the cheapest and stingy folks ever that don't want to pay anything for model kits or supplies. how many on here alone dropped a deuce over kit prices increasing from $10 to a God awful and astounding $15? now kit prices are what $25 or so for most Revell car kits? so Walmart has a limited selection of kits on the shelves for the holiday season for $15 and you guys are bitching and moaning? do they have hobby or building supplies too? nope, just a small selection of kits. am i against supporting the local hobby shop or the "little guy"? nope, not by a long shot, but i'm smart with my money. if i can buy a Revell '62 Chevy for $15 i'm going to buy it, who cares what store it's in, that's smart shopping. will Walmart stocking a limited selection of kits for the holiday season have ANY effect on the local hobby shops? i seriously doubt it I agree with all that, I dont have money to blow, and have to spend my hobby money wisely , so thats why I buy on eaby and use coupons. I do by all my supplies from my LHS, but when I can get a kit for $10 less on ebay or using a hobby lobby coupon I am going to .
martinfan5 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Phoenix does not have very many LHS, we have three and they are all owned by the same person, and have high price's on kits . And one of the main reason why I dont go there very often is , I live on the out skirts of town, so its almost a 30 min drive, then you consider gas, so that just makes it smarter to buy online , well atleast for me. Plus I dont always have time to make a trip to the LHS. I am not worried about the LHS going out of business anytime soon, they have been around for the last 15 years or longer, the R/C people are keeping them in business
george 53 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Wallymart, Kmart,Meijer all carry models at Christmas time ONLY!!! Depending on where you live SOME K-Marts still carry a VERY small selection. No more than a dozen different scales and varieties. But after the holidays, Sayonara baby!
