Erik Smith Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Doesn't look too bad. Retro styling? Not on the Dart. While it has a following, a lot of the car buying public could care less about the old Darts - they didn't like them then or now. Small engine? Who cares. It would probably outperform most of the engines from the bygone era - do it more reliably and efficient too. I am looking for a new smaller car and would like to get something knthe next year or two - will this be a consideration? More likely than Chrysler's current options.
Swifster Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'm a Chrysler guy and the name just doesn't do it for me. I hope when they bring out the Avenger/200 replacement that the Dodge isn't named Coronet...
Rob Hall Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) the Charger should have been a Coronet......................... Wouldn't have worked...Coronet has very little name recognition compared w/ Charger. Likewise for Monaco or Polara... I know the purists squalk over it being a 4dr, but it's a great car overall, IMO. The Charger is a good example of retro modern...very modern car w/ some retro touches like the name and some styling cues. Edited December 6, 2011 by Rob Hall
moparmagiclives Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 I like it and if it's upsized for the US market, I might actually fit in it too! They need that too, wonder if it will be a reworked MiTo or 500 then........ I was told they will not rework the 500 into the chrysler group, Its only for fiat stores as a fiat.
Guest Johnny Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 As with most resurrected car model names, I would just as soon see them leave them retired and just come up with something original!

Great, way to jinx the whole operation...
SuperStockAndy Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 That's looking awfull, and engine needs 4 cylinders more! Personally, I don't like it at all, why it's Dodge Dart, it doesn't look like Dart AT ALL. I understand Camaro or Challenger, and Mustang, because they look- even a bit of those original car models, but not this one. Don't take this too hard-I just hate new cars, exept Camaro, Challenger and Mustang. Ditto to everything you said.
Chuck Most Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 the Charger should have been a Coronet......................... The Charger never should have happened period. I still wonder what their target market for that car is supposed to be... people not blessed with the gift of sight?

Ouch...i like the Charger...nice to see Chrysler is still doing large, RWD V8 sedans....better than having the name on some weak FWD model like the crappy car they put the name on in the '80s. I had an 07 for a few years. great car, plenty of room. and got 27 mpg on the highway with a v6

I had an 07 for a few years. great car, plenty of room. and got 27 mpg on the highway with a v6 That I understand, but did they have to style it after a Ram pickup? And if it had to be a four-door, why not just keep the Intrepid name? That would have appeased the guys who hate it just because of the name, at least. I will say I don't care how many doors a Charger has, I just didn't like it because of its looks. The 2011s are starting to grow on me, but I'd still love to smack whoever approved the '06 design.
High octane Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 give us an SRT-4 version like the previous Neon and you may get my attention. i don't know about you guys but i think a modern day GTS Dart would be pretty sweet with a 300hp 4cyl. Why, will YOU buy one?
sjordan2 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) I don't think there would have been any controversy over the Charger if they had gone with the 1999 concept design. It would still be a winner today - possibly the most beautiful of all current American sedans. Edited December 6, 2011 by sjordan2

Even if the Charger had simply been a Magnum with a shorter roof, that would have been just fine.

The 2011s are starting to grow on me, but I'd still love to smack whoever approved the '06 design. I seem to remember that was Daimler's idea. IIRC they thought Chrysler's best products were it's trucks, so all of Chrysler's vehicles should look like trucks and should sell better because of it.......... Does that kind offend anybody else?
Chuck Most Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Best as far as styling or quality? Either way, sound like a very iffy business plan to me. But then again- it used to be that truck styling followed car styling, now it appears to be flip-flopped. All Chevy cars have the big chrome horizontal bar and gigantic gold bowtie, which was first used on the trucks. Ford trucks have the giant chrome 'goal post' grilles, and while most of the Ford cars don't have that exact same design, you can see quite a bit of F-Series in the faces of most current Ford cars. So far Toyota and Nissan don't seem to have jumped on the bandwagon, though.
Joe Handley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I think it was both Chuck and I agree fully, seems like the only cars that ended up not looking that way were the Sebring and Avenger......those just got screwed over in a different way it seems.
Danno Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I don't think there would have been any controversy over the Charger if they had gone with the 1999 concept design. It would still be a winner today - possibly the most beautiful of all current American sedans. Very nice looking '84 Camaro!
Joe Handley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Nah, no F-Body ever looked that good.................
martinfan5 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Oh why in the heck did Dodge give the Charger four doors
Casey Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 That I understand, but did they have to style it after a Ram pickup? And if it had to be a four-door, why not just keep the Intrepid name? Consumers associate names with experiences, which is why Volare, Edsel, Pinto, and Cimmaron will never be used again. Chuck, I'm sure you know of the 2.7L V-6 which powered many 2GN LH cars, including the Intrepid. How many people will now never buy another Chrysler product after experiencing the 2.7L enigne siezure firsthand? I know loyalists wanted the Charger as a 2-door, but it's on its second generation as a 4-door sedan, and has outlasted the Magnum, and seems likely to outlast the Challenger, too. People want to have their cake and eat it too, and they can get everything on the Charger and still haul three kids around comfortably. If it wouldn't be selling (see the Magnum) Chrysler would've axed it already. Coronet makes me think of horns or Rosemary Clooney commercials. I did like the Hornet name that was rumored, so maybe that will be applied to a different car? I'm sure some AMC die-hards will complain about that, too.
