Joe Handley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 John Travolta is registered as a pilot for Qantas (spelling?). Can you imagine getting a plane and finding out your pilots are going to be Travolta and Dickenson!
Draggon Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Hmmm. I think I would trust them more than the current crop! Hey, a musican and an actor? Perhaps there chosen venues were a means to an end. I suffered a lousy job to pay for my fun! I dont think Travolta flys for Quantas, I think he might own some of their aircraft. He still needs the appropriate license to fly, whether or not it is for a carrier.
Chuck Most Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Well, Quantas is the only major airline which has never had a fatal crash- I wouldn't feel too uneasy flying with them.
peekay Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Lowell George (Little Feat) used to make motorized model planes. He once injured his finger badly enough on a propeller that he couldn't play guitar for a while.
Jantrix Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I did not know that about Neil Peart. However if he puts even half the dedication into his models that he does his drumming, he must do some amazing work.
Howard Cohen Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I have a friend in Illinois who used to sit in as a sub for Neil Peart and he is an avid model builder and collector and has been for decades.
roadhawg Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Not a musician, but movie producer Peter Jackson (Lord Of The Rings) enjoys model airplanes so much he started his own company...Wingnut Wings. Some of the nicest kits of any kind you'll ever see.
weasel Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Neal also rides motorcycles...follows the tour bus kinda thing, well, in front of the tour bus, if it can keep up!! lol... so, i 'get' him on 2 fronts as i ride a lot....
Nate Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) I suspect he was on the Scale Auto forums at one time but who would know?? I think he used the name EddieV (go figure). I remember reading one of his posts a few years back about how he super glued his fingers together before a show once, and they banned him from building before a show after that. Nate Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) Eric Clapton builds model planes. I read in Issue #15 of The Rodder's Journal in a feature on his 40 Ford (the same issue as Jimmy Shine's 34 Ford Pickup) that he built models as a kid and that influenced the kind of hot rods and customs he likes, and that he would stuff the biggest engine he could into a car. So now instead of model cars, he has full size cars built. If I had the kind of money he does, so would I. Edited December 7, 2011 by Nate
Junkman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) Frank Beard used to be, don't know if he still is, a collector of high quality hand built 1/43 car models. If you don't know what little band he's from you probably aren't much of a rock & roller... Frank still collects 1:43rd models, and his fellow band member Billy Gibbons is known to build plastic kits. Other avid car modellers are Jay Leno, Nick Mason, and Jerry Seinfeld. David Bowie and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl enjoy railway modelling, so does Peter Waterman, who now has his own model railway company. Other celebrities who are into railway modelling are (or were) Tim Allen, Roseanne Barr, Claude Bolling, Tom Brokow, Yul Brynner, Billy Butterfield, Roy Campanella, Johnny Cash, Gary Coleman, Phil Collins, Kevin Costner, Richard Crenna, Roger Daltrey, Joe DiMaggio, Walt Disney, James Doohan, Ed Dougherty, Arthur Godfrey, Hermann Göring, Whoopi Goldberg, Rick Green, Michael Gross, Merle Haggard, Tom Hanks, David Hasselhoff, Tommy Hunter, Elton John, Michael Jordan, Gil Melle, Roger Miller, Vaughn Monroe, Mandy Patinkin, Ricardo Patrese, John Pertwee, Sam Posey, Sally Jesse Raphael, Joe Regalbuto, Lionel Ritchie, Jim Scancarelli (photos of his layout are featured in the Walthers catalog), Rick Schroder, Frank Sinatra, Tom Snyder, Bruce Springsteen, Patrick Stewart, Danny Sullivan, Donald Sutherland, Mel Torme (On his divorce, he said "I prefer my trains to my wife") and Neil Young, who is part owner of Lionel Trains, tours with a Lionel layout in a trailer.
