Wow, pile on the poor guy, sheesh!

It was the 70's and model kit demand was at an all time low and prices were beginning to climb.

So... is there a better 1977 Chevrolet pick up kit out there? No, so it is what it is and as a model car builder you need to use your skills to make it better.

Hint: there are a lot of poorly detailed model kits out there and a lot of great kits. Be nice if someone produced a book of what to watch for, but till that happens, we have a forum....

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid Revell kits were the worst..the ones to avoid. One of the first kits I built--the first 1:25th scale glue kit, IIRC---as a 7-yr old was the late '70s issue of the '56 Chevy w/ opening doors, trunk, etc...was a pain to put together, molded in an ugly green. Then I remember the some Mustang and Firebird kits from '79-80 or so that had weird squishy tires and poor engine and interior detailing... I didn't really get into Revell kits until the late '80s after they acquired Monogram and started putting out some new tooling.

Same for me Rob, Revell only became good after the merger with Monogram.

But now that you have the kit, why don't you kit bash it with the Amt (ex-Mpc) '84? GMC (ex-fall guy) kit?

I wouldn't say that... look at the '29 and '31 Model A kits. Those were done in the early 1960's, and other than the molded-in lenses, they still hold up pretty well by today's standards, detail-wise. They require a bit more effort on the modeler's part to build, but the detail more than makes up for it. I often wonder if Revell were to kit a Model A today if it would be any better than those old warhorses. Simple fact is, most any kit developed in the '70's wasn't as good as the kits that were developed in later decades, or even before, in some cases.

As far as the tow truck, I have the '90s issue..figure I'll just build it as a curbside eventually. I have a bunch of the MPC '78-84 Chevy and GMC pickups in my stash w/ various builds in mind.

Yes, there is. MPC had one. The original release (only one with the 2wd parts) was a '78, as were the early 4x4 variants. It was also retooled to the '81-'87 cab (with '78 running gear) as well as a GMC of the same era. The GMC has recently been reissued.
