cruz Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Just like you hear it fellas, not my thing but..... I am having a lot of fun with this kit!! Last month at my club meeting, a new member approached me and asked me if I could build a Revell of Germany Formula 1 racing car for him. He tells me that another one of the club members told him that I am used to building these types of models. Where the heck did he get that information from? Have any of you here in the forum seen me building one of these things? My sentiments exactly.... Anyway, to make a long story short, I decided to go ahead and build this thing for him even though I clearly specified that I have never touched one of these types of models before. We agreed on a price and off I went into the sunset with my other 1000 projects I have going on, most of them at least in my head. I will show a series of pictures of the work in progress on this thing but I will admit one thing, I am having a lot of fun building this kit, it's the kind of project that actually motivates anyone being that it's something (at least for me) out of the norm. The cartograph decals? In one word...... AWESOME!!! First time I work with them, if you ever decide using them on a model, make sure to keep a hair blower at your side, helps out a lot. These things work more like BMF than decals, carefully placed and worked, they yield very professional results! So far I have painted the model and placed most of the decals on the body but this thing brings a huge decal sheet with most of the decals done to simulate carbon fiber. I also decided to re-scribe all the panel lines since most of them were a little on the light side. Being that these cars have so many panels, I thought it was the right thing to do even though it was a little tedious. This is the model.... Hosted on Fotki
scaleauto Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I have only built one, about 20 years ago. Hey it is still a model!

I will be sharing some more stuff down the road, hope you guys like this....
Greg Pugh Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I'm sure this will turn out fantastic just like your other builds. It's sometimes fun to get outside of your box. It will only sharpen your skills and make you an even better modeler.
Modlbldr Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Marcos- Whether you build F-1 cars or not, it looks lie the gentleman found the RIGHT person to build his!! You are doing fantastic work! Keep it up. I'm sure he'll be extremely happy with it. Later-
sjordan2 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Kudos for your tip on cutting the decals along the panel lines. I've seen failure to do that spoil a lot of wonderful builds.
Sixx Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 C'mon Cruz, you know you're gonna make it look AWESOME!!!! killer already!
Lunajammer Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Cool looking space ship. All you need are some blasters. That's some quality work there. But maybe just a sentence on how the hair dryer factors in on the decal application. Thanks.

Thanks guys, I have learned to burnish the decals after heating them real good with the hair dryer, the burnishing helps the decal conform to every curve and detail of the parts. First I place the decal, take off the excess water with a flat brush, hit it with the dryer for about 15 seconds and burnish it well with my fingers. I repeat the whole process at least three times and get very good results!

cruz Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 I am almost done with this thing, I am still waiting to hear from Revell regarding the tires and decals.... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki There was only one good tire...... Hosted on Fotki
Wheels Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 You're doing a great job with this model Cruz!!
Dave42 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Very nice. Apparently skills are skills, no matter what the subject. I really like the body shape on this. I have an older F1 kit to build, but the body is shaped much differently. BTW, the tires are bad in that kit too. Later,
