Shelbytona Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Thanks guys for the comments. No this is my Dads friends car, I'm building this model for my dad. I got the engine compartment done... all i have to do is connect the brake booster hose once the glue dries.
Shelbytona Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) Tail panel is finished. I also got some more random decals on as well as the gas cap detailed and put on.. It's getting there! hopefully have it finished up next weekend! Edited January 24, 2012 by Shelbytona
Danno74 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Oh great! Now I have to wipe up drool off of my keyboard. Awesome job my man. I love the attention to detail.
tyrone Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 This is some spectacular work on this one..... everyting is so neatly done....
Shelbytona Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Thanks! I got the grill finished... i always seem to mess up the finish with silver on a bigger area when using a brush, so i chopped the grill inserts out so i could airbrush the pieces separately. I painted the grill inserts semi gloss black, and the outer grill shell tamiya flat aluminum. I then pieced it back together with some really thin styrene. I added little tabs to the corners of the lower valence to hold it tight against the body as well... Hopefully this works good on final assembly, since i see most people having troubles with this lower valence... i also built the lower sill trim and put it on. Edited January 24, 2012 by Shelbytona
Shelbytona Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Those tabs glued on the lower valance are the perfect problem solver! it slid right into place without glue. (the clear glue hasn't dried on the valence fog lights in the pics, so they look kinda foggy) I got a good part of it done tonight! i have the hood/hinges to finish as well as the exhaust tips... then i final waxing and its done! moparfarmer Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 What a fantastic job on the Charger. You went all out on everything. One thing I got to ask though. Why didn't you take off the engraving on the gas tank? You have a very CLEAN looking car. Sorry to knit pick on the engraving, but I got curious. No harm meant.

No worries, I never intended on detailing it this much, so it never crossed my mind to remove it... it's not too late.. i will sand it off and touch up the tank. Edited January 24, 2012 by Shelbytona

Bart68 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Thats an awesome job, the detailing is spot on.
SpitShineTommy Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 " i tried 3 times (wrecked 3 decals from various kits) to get that 440 magnum decal on the air cleaner... all the micro sol in the world won't get it on without it wrinkling!! so i puttied up the air cleaner to take the angle out it it, and it worked out perfect!" I just did the same thing last night on the 68 charger im building. I will use this tip when building my 69. Looks great!
oldscool Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 That is some beautiful work! If you cut the decal into 2 half circles it will lay down well. gus
kenlwest Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I am just STUNNED! What a beautiful execution to one of the greatest classics of all time! AWESOME!
ChrisPflug Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 nice wheels where you get the fronts Look a lot like the ones from the '74 Charger annual
Shelbytona Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys for the compliments! It's 99.9% done! I'm very happy with how it turned out.. This is a very nicely detailed model with only a few fitment issues! I got those slot rims off ebay. Casey on this forum is the one who makes them.. they are perfect! i just took them out of the bag and painted them! Good tip on that decal, i might try that on the Dart model i'm making next.
