Nick Notarangelo Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 lots of good pic's also http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=1291&aid=443
moparmagiclives Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Really? I kind of dispize that whole thing. It events like that, that drove the price of anything close to being classic through the roof and out of the hands of most hard working "car guys". Kind of like main stream racing events. Great car though, I got to see one when I was younger. pretty neat to see one in person.
moparmagiclives Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Interesting article...though I disagree with it being "the most famous television car in the world" Thats a tuff call, I guess I would say top 3 or so, with the batmobile and the munsters 1/2 cars. As far as TV series go.
Guest Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I haven't watched Barrett Jackson that much, but the few times I have, I have seen many cars go for less than what it would cost to build one even if you were able to do all of the work yourself. When ebay came about, everyone cried that they had ruined the modeling hobby by driving prices up. One that was very vocal about it was my LHS owner. Funny thing is that I have bought a lot of the same collector models he has on his shelves for about a third of what he's asking for them. Just like anything else in the world, you have people who love it and people who hate it.
Joe Handley Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 (edited) I would have to agree with the General being top 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was theeeee top tv car either,I'd be willing to bet that more people world wide would recognize the General than would recognize the early Batmobile, Munster Cars, or the Clampet Family Olds for that matter. bigmikevee Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I don't have the money to buy this right now, I wonder if Danno would go halves with me.......?
MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 That car is a rebodyed car.. The guy that overseen the restort chopped the original Lee1 up an sold it off. All that is on the auction is the vin# an firewall is all from the original Lee1. Look it up on facebook also, you will see what I mean.
martinfan5 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 (edited) Here is a link to more info on Lee1, at the bottom of the page are pics of Lee1 when it was discovered in a pasture in S.C. http://www.mygenerallee.com/ Edited December 31, 2011 by martinfan5

Mr. Moparman Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 OMGNAGLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Danno Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I like the GL but i would like to do the same charger with the name General Grant. Blue with yellow trimming,Us flag. Maybe crossed sabers in gold. Oh and a horn that played the Calvary charge. Thats a great idea!! Wish I had thought of it first!!

Maybe crossed sabers in gold. Oh and a horn that played the Calvary charge. You could build it that way, set it on fire, and call it the General Sherman. G
Danno Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Or, you could build 6 or 7 General Lees, crush them with a hand sledge, load the debris on a flatbed semi tractor-trailer and call it another DOH episode filmed and in the can.

That's not a bad idea, actually. Well, I don't think the sledgehammer would inflict realistic damage to the cars, but a car hauler filled with wrecked GL stand-ins... that has hasn't been done.
Maindrian Pace Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Any pics of the resto of Lee 1, is it certain that it's rebodied? It sure was rough, but I've seen worse brought back. -MJS

Danno Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 LOL.....thats just wrong........but i like it. He's good, ain't he?
Maindrian Pace Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 http://www.cglfc.com...php?f=1&t=13567 The link doesn't work for me, but here's a link to an Edmunds' video that would seem to show that the car was not a rebody, but a restoration with all new sheetmetal where needed, and it needed everything. http://www.insidelin...eneral-lee.html It'll probably bid real high, possibly to a foreign buyer. -MJS
Agent G Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 He's good, ain't he? I was the Bomb and Arson guy ............remember? :D G
Danno Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I was the Bomb and Arson guy ............remember? :D G You say you bombed out as the 'arson guy?' I was the 'arson guy,' too. You know what they say ... there's a fine line between ... I never liked that other stuff ... the stuff that could go BOOM! with no prior warning. I gladly left that up to the department's alcoholic 'bomb bum.'
