Got the Galaxy Nexus? Pretty sweet phone from what I've read....I've got a Droid 2 currently, thinking my next phone might be a Droid 4, Droid Razr or something from the Galaxy range...waiting to see what Apple does next w/ the iPhone also, I may be doing some iPhone app development soon...

Very cool on the Development! Why not Android? I have the Galaxy S2, I like my touchwiz from Samsung. Just don't care for all the Carriers bloatware on it. Careful about the new Droid Razor, way to many issues with that device. I know a friend that just got one, and that thing shuts off or screen goes blank all the time on it. Since I actually work for a Wireless Carrier, I get 2 new phones a year for free. So I usually get one every 6-8 months when something new comes out that I want.

Thinking about the 5" screen Galaxy Note. I like Apple to a point, but I can't deal with the iPhone's small 3.5" screen they use. Maybe the iPhone 5 will change that.

Yeah I use the speech to Text feature all the time - always have with the speech enabled phones, currently using the 4.5" Samsung Galaxy SII

And contrary to what you might think it is large enough to read on!

Amen to that!

May be doing Android development also for some of my company's clients....kind of want to target both markets... I've done a bit of Android development on the side. Most of my development work over the years has been enterprise applications, but getting into mobile.. speaking of wireless carriers, i worked for a formerly big telecom company back in the '90s that got acquired by one of the big wireless carriers...telecom is an interesting world...

Folks, I am not kidding when I tell you that in the next 20 years or sooner we'll be able to get some sort of implant that where we won't need any more gadgets, it will all be in our heads!:unsure::o

It would be cool to upload content directly into my head...no more being 'offline'... but I don't want to end up like people in 'The Matrix'..slaves to the computers.. got to watch out for the rise of Skynet also..

Rob, we've learned in the last 50 years that it ain't really science fiction anymore! ;):D

Not when they can insert SIM cards under your skin now and use that for Personal Information. IE: Drivers License, Dr. Info, Allergies and such. They just swipe your wrist with the wand and presto, all your information comes up on the screen.

George Carlin said the Japanese have already invented "everything", they just dole it out to us in small increments that we can afford. Once everyone had a Walkman, they went to CD. Once we all had CD's, DVD's. Now ipods. I think I see where this is headed?

I believe that you,o'cranky one, asked for answers from those of us over 50 years of age. That eliminates many who have responded of late. As a senior member of this forum who will reach the ripe old age of 67 on this Friday, January 13th, I will say this. Technology only effects those who have a need for it. The latest in digital photos? Say what? As stated before, take a picture, load it onto the puter, transfer it into Photobucket, post it on the website. Is it of the latest, greatest technology? Who cares. Goes it do what you intended? Does my cell phone talk to me? I don't care. I get calls, I makes calls. Always worked for me. I could go on and on, but why bother. Give you young ones 20, 30 years if you live that long. Maybe you'll figure it out.

A job that would have taken a week to do 20 years ago is now expected to be done in much less time, sometimes even the same day. The problem is, though, that while actually creating a "production ready" file for a brochure, for example, does take less time to do on the computer vs. the old-fashioned paste-up boards, the process of designing... the thinking time needed to come up with the concept, working out the layout and design, picking or creating graphics, typefaces, colors, etc. is still basically done in the designer's head, and goes no faster than it did 20 years ago

A-FREAKIN'-MEN brotha.

A funny thing happened a few summers ago while I lived in a 10-plex. Big power outage in our part of town. Sun was going down, rooms getting dark, no TVs, no computers, no interactivity. People had nothing to do for a long time on a beautiful evening. Out of desperation for stimulation they.......... began neighboring.

They started coming out of their homes, taking walks, introducing themselves, visiting over fences, shaking hands, playing with their kids in the yards, and it was block after block. In our building, after dark, those on our floor had a gabfest in the hallway. A couple hours later, power came back on and like vampires suddenly becoming self aware, everyone vanished back into their crypts for isolated electronic stimulation. It was like a lovely window into the past and into why people 50 and more years ago were closer, had more friends, were more trusting and were happier.

I am delighted to see you guys are having some fun with this one . . .

Some technologies are useful, but personally I come from the school who believes a computer should never replace a human being, not at work or anywhere else. Then again, i don't run a business with a huge payroll.

I recently reached the half century mark, and I love technology! Its an integral part of my job and life. Being in a healthcare related field, I am amazed everyday by what can be done now. Ever see a surgical procedure performed with robotics? Amazing. Some procedures that used to mean long and risky time "under the Knife" are now minimally invasive with rapid recovery times. It's things like that , that make me appreciate every advancement made., OK I have to go and paint, or build, or glue something.

That is one of the most beautifully stated and insightful posts I have seen in a long time anywhere.

Mike, I agree with Harry, that's a wonderful (and I know it would happen again because I think people are good for the most part) thing!

Harry, I have that problem, my hands have to be busy all the times or I go nuts, its an ADD thing from when I was a kid, thats one reason why I build models, it keeps my hands busy and has a claming effect for me. But Its very hard for me to sit and watch TV with out doing something else. I will sit and watch a movie with the girlfriend at times, but thats all I can stand.

Hands were quite busy when watching a movie with a girlfriend in them good old times, lemme tellya.

A little side note to the techno talk: Vinyl records (yeah, those big black discs we remember from the good old days) are making a comeback! CDs are passé, sales are flat or down, mp3 downloads are how music is sold these days... but good old-fashioned vinyl LPs are actually making a comeback. In fact, record companies are re-releasing albums on vinyl that had never before been available in that old format, but had only been released on CD.

I've read that people long for a tangible, physical object that they can hold in their hands. Downloading music electronically to your ipod just doesn't give that sense of "ownership" that holding an actual disc in your hands does.

I never gave up on vinyl... I still have every single record I ever bought, still have a turntable (you younger guys probably don't even know what a "turntable" is!).... what's old is new again! B)

 that was SOOOOO funny i fell out of my desk chair and LMFAO until i almost puked!

this coming from a kid who's parents probably werent even around in '68!

Yes..sounds like that kid needs to build a time machine so he can literally live in the past....

Ed's grousings about 1968 sound like my older brother..he's stuck in the past..

1968 wasn't a particularly good year in the US...war raging, political assassinations, unrest, etc..

What's vinyl? :) J/K. I never had vinyl back in the day, barely got into cassettes before the CD era began.

She falls asleep now before that can even start to happen

I have one record

The truth behind Mp3's is, the record companys say you dont own the song, you have the rights to listen to it

Last time I watched a movie (at home) w/ a girlfriend we were both busy w/ our laptops.

See now, that's the problem.

You probably should have been busy with each other's laptops...
