Casey Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I think this forum could greatly benefit from having a FAQ (frequently asked questions), where we could direct, well, frequently asked questions such as "How do I strip paint", "how do I post pictures", "how do I delete a post", "how do I paint", etc. I suppose this would require adding an additional forum section, so maybe Gregg can comment on that aspect. Yes, I will volunteer to help write some FAQ answers if needed.
Harry P. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 The problem is getting people to actually use an FAQ section instead of just posting the question anyway.
Gregg Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 That will be a part of the main web site, once someone get's off his okole..... (me, not Harry, or anyone else...) Main Web Site = www.modelcarsmag.com Not the forum
Casey Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 The problem is getting people to actually use an FAQ section instead of just posting the question anyway. True, but at least with having a FAQ, they have the option of reading it before just posting a question. Whether they chose to read the FAQ is another issue entirely.
Harry P. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I don't know... members here constantly amaze me. The other day there were a few people who were wondering why truck models should be posted in the truck section. And one of them said he didn't even know we have a truck section! Seems like an FAQ section would just be ignored by too many members.

I agree its a good idea, but for most of the model related topics are covered in the how do I section, yet it seems like every couple a weeks we see a new how do I strip paint, or a paint question , so I agree with Harry , I think it would just be ignored by most
sjordan2 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 In my personal opinion, I think that a place for good links to tutorial sites would be good. I don't see how this site can be managed to provide FAQs with all things to all people. We already have the "Tips, tricks, etc." and "How Do I...?" topics, but they're not organized and I don't see how they can be. Plus, the search function on this site is very iffy. Otherwise, there are tons of good sites and topics out there, from around the world, that can be answered with a Google search.
martinfan5 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 If only more people would use google to find answer's to their questions, why it may not always give you the answer's you are looking for, its a very good start.
Foxer Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 . Plus, the search function on this site is very iffy. Otherwise, there are tons of good sites and topics out there, from around the world, that can be answered with a Google search. Someone here recommended using google to search the MCM forum and I'm finding it works as well as googling the world at large. I saved the link of hiis example link and just edit the GMC in his line for what I want to search for. I can finally find an old thread here! This is the line to be used in a normal Google search: site:modelcarsmag.com gmc
martinfan5 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I have pretty much gave up on using the search function on here, sometimes I can get it to work, its a number games with it at time, meaning either to many words, or not enough. I would say it works 50% of the time. But I dont really use it, most of the threads I look for are most of the times a few pages back anyways. Yes using google to search the forum does work very well.
crazyjim Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I probably do the search thing wrong because I never find what I'm looking for. I'll have to try the google thing.
martinfan5 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Jim, next time you try it, if the first time it does not work, either add a word or delete a word, I think it was Harry that posted in thread somewhere how to get the most from the search fuction on here

As the comedian Ron White would say......."You can't fix stupid" Considering many of us find it easier to post a question instead of searching for the answer or similar topics, I would not hold out much hope that the FAQ section would be used. Don't get me wrong, I think Casey is on to something, but I doubt it would change much here, unfortunately.
