Len Colombo Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Go to ferrariworld.com for the official factory presentation of the unveiling.
Cato Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 That is an unfortunate face--followed closely by the door 'activity'.
The70judgeman Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Eh....was never much of a Ferrari fan anyway. There's a few more "copycat" features than just the rear facia treatment.
Joe Handley Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Considering Alfa and Ferrari are now part of Fiat, call it a family resemblance The more I look at that door scoop and the way the vent exits into the fenders, I wonder if it's being used as a source for some additional rear downforce since it sweeps up and over the rear wheels Honestly, I like it's looks better than most modern Ferrari's too. slantasaurus Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Maybe its just me.....but did you ever think you'd see a Ferrari in a thong ???
Peter Lombardo Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Perhaps Nike is paying Ferrari royalties for the advertising space on the car….it is a shame, to me, that Ferrari has used the same basic shape now for years, I guess they are running out of attractive ways to change it up….Ferrari is a great sports car and they have nothing to apologize for, but this one should have remained on the stylist’s computer screen……but, I could be wrong.
sjordan2 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) I'd say both the Ferrari and the Alfa are doing a little retro homage to Ferraris of the 60s, like the 275 GTB. Edited March 1, 2012 by sjordan2
Bernard Kron Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 We're obviously into some sort of "high baroque" period where elaboration of surface details (typically derivative of an established litany of standardized elements) around a common architecture passes for "design evolution". The interesting thing is that most of these cars are far less impressive in photographs than they are "in the metal" where they can be quite striking and surprisingly well proportioned. ... Which in my book still doesn't excuse the current paucity of genuine creativity. But all of this is nothing new - even in the golden age of the 50's and 60's Italian carrozzeria was pretty hit or miss...
kenb Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I'm not a Ferrari fan. In saying that I mean I don't lust over them as some do. I like the Dino cars and a few others. This one doesn't do anything for me. Maybe Bernard is right, you have to see it in the flesh to appreciate it. Ken
kingtoy Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I guess i'm in the minority. I think it is a very beautiful car, very striking. It is a far cry from my favorite Ferrari though.
Austin T Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 It looks like it's sad,sad that that design went into production.
Chuck Doan Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 (edited) Car styling has to be one of the hardest jobs especially the high end cars. Though if I worked in that field I would rather style a Ferrari than a Smart car. Like the thong comment! Edited March 2, 2012 by Chuck Doan

I take it you're not a fan of the Porsche 911, then?
sjordan2 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 (edited) I take it you're not a fan of the Porsche 911, then? A good analogy. I don't see anything wrong with continually developing new twists on a traditional look that echoes the styling history of the brand. But I do kind of yearn for the old days when you seldom, if ever, saw a panel line in the flow of the bodywork. At most, you'd see a chrome strip running along the rocker panels. But I guess that these days, body parts are made out of so many different types of materials that it's hard to disguise the seams. Edited March 2, 2012 by sjordan2
Scott - Elm City Hobbies Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Love it....when is the kit due!! Revell Germany you listening? I suppose though it will be a few years, as we are just going to be getting the 599GTO later this year, and I belive this new model is the 599 replacement.
robertw Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I love the looks of most Ferrari's but this one doesn't do too much for me. I agree with a few of you who find that side effect a little strange. rob
