Dr. Cranky Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Where do you find your inspiration? And when you come across a picture like this one, what does it do to your imagination?
wgflatliner Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Most of my inspiration comes from my 1:1. Knowing its getting closer to completion makes me happy. However I have been on a street rod and lowrider kick lately, so it can't all be 1:1 motivation. Maybe I just find the vibrant and smooth paint jobs to be my inspiration. I dunno

Romell R Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Where do you find your inspiration? And when you come across a picture like this one, what does it do to your imagination? Welcome to flight 001 of LEA airlines, I'll be your flight attendant for today, The captain has turned on the no smoking sign in fear that the cabin will burst into flames ....The emergency exits are blocked by the chicken coops and will not be usable in the event of an emergency. Incase there is trouble during the flight please remember to put your seat backs in the upright position, put your head between your knees and kiss your butt goodbye. Thank you for flying Lil El Salvador Airlines

Joe Handley Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It all depends for me, I can get insperation from just about any place, and many times, the stupidest of places! Here's some of the insperation for the Revell Ban I started last night as well as a blown, hemi powered B-Van I saw a in a Hot Rod magazine that was older then I was. The other is for a 2008 Bullitt Mustang that is being turned into a Targa Toped 2 seater. I saw this video at the gym last week and thought I was seeing thing since I was across the room from the TV and had left glasses in my Jeep and even has me considering starting '68 Mustang along the same lines and doing them as a pair of what if concept cars built 40 years apart

Dr. Cranky Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Ah, nothing like a good dose of humor on a cloudy, pollen-filled Monday.

Jdurg Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 My inspiration tends to be random. I guess that's why I like the fact that I have subscribed to Scale Auto Enthusiast. It comes out every two months, so when my mind is growing blank a new issues comes in the mail and gets me going again. Speaking of random, when I parked my car at work today I ended up parking next to a brand new Corvette. I know it's new since the only sticker on it was the employee parking sticker on the windshield and not a registration one. (My state got rid of the registration stickers about a year ago, so a new car in the past year or two will not have one). I was fortunate to arrive at the same time as this person, and mentioned how I was a car model enthusiast who focuses on Corvettes. He was pretty happy to meet another Corvette enthusiast and actually let me sit in the car. First time I have ever sat in a Corvette. It just felt sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo comfortable. I told him how I build model cars, and he said that if I ever wanted to take some photos for reference to just let him know. I think I'm going to pick up another modern model 'Vette and build a replica of his car. I'll be able to take photos of such high detail that I'll be able to completely replicate that car. I may even do a good thing and build an exact replica of his car and then give him the model. It's a beautiful yellow with a black interior. Quite stunning, if I can say so myself. But I think that's a great example of where my inspiration comes from. I love the old school Corvettes (I think I need to build me a 1953 just for the sake of it), but I really love the modern era cars in terms of model building. This 1988 I'm building is way too much fun.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Twisted mind is often all we got, but sometimes the work of other builders comes along and really fuels the next spark, like this: This is a model done by Tatsuya Kaneko Edited March 20, 2012 by Dr. Cranky

( the french sea explorer with the orange beenie ) how ever you spell his name! LOL!!! That's pretty cool!!!
62rebel Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 that right there is almost enough to make me quit model cars and take up ships again.... is that, indeed, the Calypso? Cousteau was a childhood hero of mine all the way through school..... i had the Cousteau PBY Catalina in my teens.... as far as inspiration for building, mine is half imagination and half stone cold reality. if i'm building a "normal" car or truck, it's firmly based on what reference material i can find. even if it's a "flight of fancy", i strive to maintain some sense of "correctness" in the structure and machinery. i've never felt any desire to build cartoons.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 I think it is, glad you like it as much as I do . . . I think composing dioramas is a great exercise in paying attention to the details.
george 53 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Real life, or real life expieriences. I'll never build or built a model that wasn't realistic. I never liked Dave Deals Wheels for that reason. I won't build fantasy stuff as it's not my thing. i like real life type cars. At least the ones I grew up with. That boat dio is museum quality, in my opinion!
Raul_Perez Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 My best ideas come to me while under the influence of N2O while getting my teeth cleaned The only problem is that I typically forget what I was thinking about once they're done
