geetee66 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Finally got it under glass. I think I might've invented new cuss-words during the final stages of this build. I learned a lot from making/ modifying this kit. Hopefully the next one will be easier! I scratchbuilt the following: Tail lights Exhaust & tips Fuel lines Wiper Bullet wheel centres Aftermarket parts used: Revell Parts Pak Cadillac engine P.E. grille P.E. dynamo bracket Turned alu distributor & coil Resin louvre transfers A bit of BMF I hope you like it, I've tried to keep it traditional... Let me know what you think, guys. I appreciate feedback
peter31a Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Wow, Guy! That looks pretty traditional to me. The chop looks good and great use of the scratchbuilt and aftermarket items. Job well done, sir.
geetee66 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Thanks Peter, nice of you to say so. The red has a gold pearl to it. It's actually a Lamborghini colour. I think it looks better with the naked eye, because stereoscopic vision enables the sheen of the pearl to come alive. It's subtle, but looks really nice in real life. Pity the camera doesn't fully capture this effect....
crazyjim Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Nice looking build, Guy. Imagine if the whole car was SHINY :) ? I really like how yo did the engine.
Jantrix Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Wow. You really batted this one out of the park. I know the 1:1 you patterned it after and you really did a great job with it. My favorite detail is the tail lights. Most people in scale or 1:1 ditch the stock tail light mounts but you embraced it and made it cool. Well done sir!
Draggon Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 That came out great! Pretty darn good for your first chop. I love all the little details too.
geetee66 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Love it ! great looking detail to the motor. Now,maybe we can go cruising together. Wow! Yours is a replica of the one I saw on Google Images, which was my inspiration. Did you chop yours or get the body from Bandit Resins? You also got yours to sit lower than mine. Maybe I should've used smaller rear tyres.... Seeing yours, I now wish I had also made my fender skirts like yours. I prefer the way you've done them.
heatride Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I like that very nice ! Red tint rear window is a nice touch .
mikelo Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Very nice! Great job on the chop job! Turned out great. I also like the 1:1 car that inspired this one. Keep up the great work. Mike
jerseyjunker1 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 in the late 70s and 80s i had two 1.1 36 ford 5 window coupes and altho i would never alter them in any way i always liked when others do them. this model looks like some i have seen in shows and it is a realy cool build. great job on it.
Fat Rat Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I think it was worth having to invent a new swears for. Very cool color combination. Good job.
geetee66 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) Thankyou for the compliments! I just thought I'd add this info: The MCG photo- etched grille is quite difficult to fit. The kit part has a compound curve (It curves both vertically and horizontally) Making the thin nickel photo-etched part curve accordingly was almost impossible. Initially, I tried to install it directly to the grille surround, but epoxy or CA just couldn't seem to hold the shape. Eventually, I decided to mount the PE part directly onto the de-chromed kit grille, to give a more solid platform. I just thought I'd add this bit of info, in case anyone else decided to give it a go. If anyone has a better suggestion, please feel free to post your tip here. I've got another one of these kits and I'll probably use the PE grille again. Having said that, I saw a nice one in 2009 Contest Cars with a LaSalle grille, but I dunno where to get one of those (does anybody know the answer to this?) Edited March 31, 2012 by geetee66
MikeMc Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Wow !! just saw that you had trouble with the grill . After looking at this picture I might suggest you nailed it .
geetee66 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Smashin! Tutorial on those headlights please! Cheers Adam, after seeing your work, I take it as a real compliment that you like my build. The headlights are kit items. There were some other lenses included in the kit, but they were flatter and had a hole in the centre of 'em. I chose to use these deep-domed lenses, simply because I liked the look of 'em.
Dominik Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 You want to know what i think about it? Looks cooooooooooool ! The bodywork looks realy good for me! Well done, keep on cruis'n
Mr.Zombie Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 The headlights are kit items. There were some other lenses included in the kit, but they were flatter and had a hole in the centre of 'em. I chose to use these deep-domed lenses, simply because I liked the look of 'em. Exactly the way I'd do it mate. Love this "bubbles", was lookin' for something like it for my things (or at least for one of the future ones), and thought You have some magic recipie to get that look. Still, great work, and I'm looking forward to see more of your stuff. If I might maon about something though. The front wheel, I think the rubber is a bit too big, and with this drop, I'd narrow the front axle a bit. But hey, details. Keep showing what you did.
Mike Kucaba Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I think you did a great job all around! The PE grille looks smashing. I think MCM did a tutorial on a PE grille sometime ago,and there were tricks to get the compound curves. It may have been on a '37 ford though. I believe Model car garage has a couple of Lasalle grilles and resin shells for both AMT and Mono '36 Fords.
