Eric C Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Just finished this one up last night. Commonly built kit so not much to say about it that hasn't been said before. I didn't do anything special to it other than added safety wire to the wheel knock-offs, repainted the kit fender swoosh decals to be more accurate in color and hand painted the blue stripe around the tires. Otherwise built out of the box. Thanks for looking...
cobraman Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 That is beautiful , How did you manage to hand paint the blue stripe ?
jeffs396 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 WOW!!! Super nice! You've got a steady hand my friend!
Chillyb1 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Every time I see one of these built it makes me want to build one. But when I see one built this well I give up all hope. Very nicely done. Everything is just so sharp, so crisp, so clean. Well, except for that stupid windshield wiper.
peter31a Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Gorgeous GT40 Eric! You did a great job on those swooshes. Beautiful model.
johnwitzke Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Well done! Very nice build. Who's paint did you use?
Fat Brian Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Looks great, it makes me want to finish mine. I cut the back open but I'm stuck trying to make the headers, maybe one day.
Cato Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Super build of a modest kit Eric! Neat as a pin and sits just right-you've captured it. Now apply those great skills to Trump's 1/12 version...!
Eric C Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks for the comment guys... I'll try to answer some of the questions. The blue stripe was hand painted using a long thin liner-brush and paint thinned almost to the consistency of a wash. There's a slight edge molded on the tire and I just flowed paint on the top surface of the ledge. The paint is Plastikote VW Blue decanted and sprayed through an airbrush. I scribed the panel lines a little deeper before I painted the car. I thinned black acrylic paint into a wash and flowed that into the panel lines. A little final polishing will clean up the overflow if there is any. Actually, I started the Trump 1/12 scale kit this weekend. Got the KA Models upgrade set and replacement tires on order.
Grumpa Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Gorgeous build Eric! I always liked the look of this car as a kid back in the 60's and you've captured that look!
mcandela Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Wow!!!! Beautiful model. Like the version built also. (you often see the Gulf #6 version)
