After seeing all the fantastic 49 Mercs on this forum I decided to try my hand at one. Not much done yet. I wanted a two tone paint job so I added some half round to the sides to allow for the 2 tone. While doing that I for some reason decided for something different I would add some down the center of the hood and trunk. These will be covered as the side ones will with BMF. Not sure the hood and trunmerc002-1.jpgmerc003.jpgk strips were a good idea. Time will tell I guess.

Bring it on, it's going to look good. If this is your first 49 Merc, get ready for some heavy duty addiction because this will not be your last. Keep it going.

I did consider putting it on the roof but wasn't sure I even liked it on the hood and trunk. Do you think putting it on the roof would tie it all in and look better ? What about just leaving them body color instead of doing them with the BMF ? The side trim will be BMF covered.

We never know if something will look good, or bad, before someone dare too try. Sometimes things comes out suprisingly well. So bring it on.

Chrome trim on the hood and truck back in the 50's was common and used widely in customizaton. I do not think it would look right on the top though.

Well, now that I finished the yellow GT 500 I can get more work done on the Merc. Small update here. I did some of the sub assemblies and squirted some paint on the body. The body still needs to be cleared and foiled. I am not sure about the color combo I went with but hopefully will look better when the trim is foiled. I would like comments both good and bad on the colors. I am partly colorblind and sometimes don't see colors as they truely are. It looks ok to me but it's not too late to change the lower portion color.

I really like the idea of the strip down the hood and trunk. I think it will look great all foiled up. Your paint looks nice and smooth. Keep it going.

Thanks for the kind words guys. As Mr. Cranky says this is a very nice kit. I have family coming from out of town so I won't get any build time for awhile.

I wasn't sure about the rod you added but after seeing it painted I'm really diggin it. Excited to see where your taking this one.

Worked some more on this build but had forgotten one thing. I had read here some place that the frame and engine would not fit due to the size of the battery. It needs to be cut down in order for the engine to fit in the engine bay. Sure enough it is true. Had to cut the battery down which is really not a big deal I just wish I would have done it before painting. I will remember on my next one. Have to wonder why Revell missed this condition. I guess if were a six it would not have been a problem. Still, it's a pretty nice kit.
