Folks, this is an informal Poll to find out how you keep track of your builds.

If you say "OTHER," could you please list what you use? Thank you.

Brandon, very interesting, but I am talking about for public consumption like sharing to the forum or with the public, etc . . . even FACEBOOK counts.

At the moment I have everything written down in a Steno pad with the intentions of building a searchable database. I want to be able to look up by year of car or kit, manufacturer, auto manufacture and model.

I do use Photobucket to share my builds with the world, but I also keep an Excel spreadsheet if the models I've build, models I intend to build, kit information, dates, etc.

I use photobucket for posting pics online. As far as offline organization if I have several of the same kit boxes I write on the box in sharpie what is happening in each box. Otherwise I put a post it on the inside of the box lid with the general direction of each build scrawled on it.

"Archive" is maybe the wrong word to describe what I have on the bucket.

Mess'o'pics'o'builds might be better.

The planned builds/kitbashing/purchases are all filed in my head...

Photobucket for me, not much there yet, I just started this year. I tried Fotki first but, couldn't get pictures to post on the forum. At first I was going to say I just look in the cabinet to see if they are all still there. LOL

I have two binders. The first is called the Build Notes and I do a write up on each build, some history on what it is, problems in the build, notes on what I did, paint I used etc. My second binder was done because I assumed that some day the actual models might not be around and I wanted to remember what I'd built over the years For it I use the photo albums that take the pages that will hold the four 4x6 pictures. One 4x6 pocket takes a typed up card containing a brief history behind the model (I build a/c as well as cars), when the model was built, kit used, scale, paint used and whatever other info I want. This card is a short version of what I have in the build notes. (I know, unnecessary duplication). The other three pockets on the page will hold photos of the model.

Since I joined the digital-age I have been photographing the subjects and posting them on various sites through photobucket.

I have a 'pilot project:' I pile some of it here, I pile some of it there, I pile some of it everywhere, and I never can find the right pile again. :P

And what's that got to do with chives? (Now I'm hungry for a baked tater!)

Fotki for me, primarily. I have separate folders for finished models(including motorcycles & model railroading), projects and my 'how-to' albums. I also have 1:1 car show, museum and reference pics in their own albums.

There's a handful of pics for sharing in my Facebook, but I have no plans to do whole albums there

ROFL. Me too, what is this thing you call organ-isation?

Archive? Well I have some Fotki albums of both in-progress, and completed models. Plus, I use MS Excel to keep an inventory of my purchases.

Virgil, by "Other" , I mean to say, I just box stuff and store it away. Look, I don't have room to archive on photo sites everything I do, nor do I really want to. I'll save some things as i'll point out a building tip for someone on a forum. Outside of that, I see no point in having stuff saved on a Photo hosting site . Ed Shaver

Thanks, Ed, the poll is beginning to show me that a large percentage of folks ARE in fact using a formal archiving source. What surprises me is that nobody is using YOUTUBE. That's a surprise.

YouTube isn't practical as the audio will interfere with everyone else in the house. Not for everyone perhaps, I know it would be here. Could wear earbuds, but... I prefer pics.

All my builds are documented in folders on my computer. A chosen few pics from each folder gets uploaded to Photobucket, then linked to various forums for the world to see. Much more organized than my bench :P
