martinfan5 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) So with the unofficial official start of the summer now here , how is everyone going to spend their Memorial day weekend?, doing any traveling?, staying home and doing some BBQ?, spending time with the family? building models? I know some of my fellow club members are doing a 24hour build this weekend, I wont be there with them, but I know they will be having a good time. And lets not forget the reason why we have this three day weekend, to honor our Men and Women in uniform who fight for our country , so we can enjoy our freedom. So whatever it is you are doing this weekend, I hope you all have a safe weekend. Edited May 26, 2012 by martinfan5
Danno Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Nicely put, Johnathan. Happy Freedom, everyone. Enjoy a respectful and reflective but happy Memorial Day weekend. Don't forget what and who it is all about.
The70judgeman Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Spending the weekend at home with my wife. No plans now. Was suppose to go up north and spread my dads ashes in the northwoods, but not everyone could go...so we're putting it off for now.
JamesW Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 My plans............... I gotta work all weekend. Which brings to mind all the people that think this holiday is all about seeing who can drink the most. (Yes, there are some out there, unfortunatly). Please, if you're gonna drink, don't drive.
tabsscale1 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Not doing anything as i me and my wife have to work

Agreed, I was going to say that, but didnt want to turn the post into a PSA lol, Drive sober, arrive alive
JamesW Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Well, my job consists of me being on the road with those morons. People around here can't drive when they're sober, I'd really hate to be out there when everyone has a beer in their lap playin bumper cars.

Mercman Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I too drive for a living, and got to agree most of the people out there today have their heads hidden. As for plans, Nephew graduates, then down to the lake place, where I will get some modeling time in.
Danno Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I'm one of the local yokels Johnathan is talking about ... kicking off a 24-hour build session tomorrow. Bunch of us from the local clubs get together with kits, tools, supplies, paints, and tons of vittles ... watch racing all night Saturday and all day Sunday ... NASCAR, Indy Cars, Formula 1, a few car shows and a couple of car movies. And we build ... all afternoon ... all night long ... all day Sunday. Then we go home and crash. Goal is to pop open a sealed kit and finish it by quittin' time. It's a ton o' fun!! Peace to y'all.
milkman Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Normal day on Saturday with yard work and getting hay equipment ready to bale hay in a couple of weeks. Sunday will have son and daughter and their families down after church for hamburgers and a swim in the pool. Granddaughters always want to ride one of the horses while they are here. Plan to do some model work on Saturday evening with a new kit I purchased on clearance at Hobby Lobby today. Got the Revell 1950 Ford custom pickup on for 11.97 and bought the new release of the 22 Ford 2 in 1 kit from AMT with my 40% coupon. My dad was in the Navy in WWII and my father-in-law was in the Marines in WWII and went on to spend 30 years with them before retirement. Have a few words about them on Sunday and a prayer for our troops of today. Remember--Home of the free because of the brave. Have a great Memorial Day guys and be safe on the road.
jcbigpaw Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Being a mail carrier with the USPS, I will be taking another ten hour walk Saturday. LOL. Sunday and Monday will be BBQ with family and maybe a movie. Probably a little late Sunday night building time since Monday is the holiday. Have a great weekend everyone.
Mooneyzs Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I will be working on my 1/16th scale Army Vega build all weekend..... as well as a few house chores I have to do...like clean house and pull weeds...etc
martinfan5 Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 I am going to be grilling all weekend, steaks on Saturday, ribs on Sunday, Hamburgers on Monday, and building too lol. And of course going to be building while I watch all the racing this weekend, so in a way, its kind of like I will be there at th 24 hour build, and with the way my 9month old hasnt been sleeping at night, I may just be doing a 24 hour build myself at home
Joe Handley Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 With the exception of Saturday (today now I guess), working. Closed Friday, work all day Sunday and were closing early Monday, so I'll be working all day then too. My 200 needs a bath again pretty bad (I swear it's been raining mud around here lately ) so I make get it cleaned up tomorrow and perhaps trying a tank full of E-85 in it. Took my Jeep to a coin op car wash Thursday and spent $6 in quarters to make it look........ok. Funny you guys mention DUI's too, the West Chicago P.D. was running a road side check in the local VFW Hall parking lot when I was coming home from the gym tonight. I was going the other direction tonight and didn't have to stop for it (all they would have found is a sweaty fat guy a bunch of bottled water and some RC stuff )
FASTBACK340 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Well, Satan has decided the dealership needs 4 techs to stand around most of the day today, so guess how I'm starting my weekend? Still flipping coins as to whether or not I should bring the Barracuda...it's supposed to rain later and I hate driving her in the rain. Good friends of our just had their first baby and he comes home today, so we'll visit them tonight. Tomorrow I might cruise out to a meet with my car club, then BBQ sunday night & Monday afternoon. Then back to do Satan's bidding on Tuesday....
SSNJim Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 And lets not forget the reason why we have this three day weekend, to honor our Men and Women in uniform who fight for our country , so we can enjoy our freedom. Not to split hairs, but that is Veterans Day on November 11. Memorial Day is to honor the members of the Armed Forces who have died fighting for our country, so we can enjoy our freedom. A minor distinction, but one that shouldn't be lost and is important to many veterans. Having said that, I hope that everyone has a good weekend, and that you can take a few minutes to remember those being honored.
Greg Myers Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Being a mail carrier with the USPS, I will be taking another ten hour walk Saturday. LOL. David G. Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I work for a funeral home\cemetery combination. As you might imagine, it is quite a busy weekend for us. I'll be working on the grounds, helping people find the location of their loved ones resting in our cemetery. In addition to that, I'll be helping set up for our 93rd annual Memorial Day Service at 9:00 AM on Monday. David G.
crazyjim Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 We'll be attending the Memorial Day services at Fero Memorial Gardens on Monday morning at 10:00am to honor our Fallen Heroes. Normally I would be on the scooter and in Washington, DC to join in Rolling Thunder's demonstration ride, but my ViêtNow national convention was last week and we didn't get home until early Monday morning. It's much for these old bones to get home from a trip and leave again a couple of days later. Hopefully next year.
Danno Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I will be working on my 1/16th scale Army Vega build all weekend..... as well as a few house chores I have to do...like clean house and pull weeds...etc We'll be blowing and going from 5pm tonight until 5pm tomorrow at Mickley's. You're welcome to stop by and say hello if you get a chance, Chris.
