BKcustoms Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) I was cleaning my workbench a few days ago and came across a Revell 49 Mercury that had been shelved because of paint issues and an old Monogram 57 chevy body that had been heavily damaged when I accidentally dropped it while trying to put BMF on it. After a while I started thinking I haven't seen many finned Mercurys and after some cutting and sanding I ended up with this..... plans are flathead power, whitewalls, and some kind of fade paint job. Let me know what you think! all comments/suggestions welcome. Billy Edited October 21, 2012 by BKcustoms
bryan_m Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 i have a 49 merc that i plan on puttin 57 chrysler tailights in, and you have to use part of the fins to do it......i havent quite figured it out yet, but ill get to it one of these days! nice work! bryan
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Very original, cool concept. The lines work remarkably well. Nice job.
BKcustoms Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out what taillights to use, I'm kinda leaning towards the stock 57 chevy ones but I kinda want something a little more custom so i might end up scratchbuilding some.
rmvw guy Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Neat idea and original! Looks like it's coming together, keep it going, I'll be watching.
Badluck 13 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 That looks really sweet, looks like it shoulda always been designed like that, lines all just flow together....
Trans Am Erik Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Excellent idea! I like how you reshaped the side windows also, giving them that 57 Chevy shape. I'll be looking forward to seeing this one progress.
TooOld Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 That's not too bad . Just thinking about it is one thing , but seeing is believing ! Should look pretty cool when finished !
BKcustoms Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks guys! I'll have a big update for this tomorrow.
Jantrix Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Find a way to reverse those skirts and you'll be onto something.
JasonFL Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Find a way to reverse those skirts and you'll be onto something. I was just looking at the photos thinking the same thing. Everything flows torwards the back then the skirts are pointing the other way. I would suggest what rob said and reverse them and maybe straighten the bottom of the skirts to match. Just a suggestion but other then that it's a great build, some cool ideas.
BKcustoms Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Update! I decided to remove the skirts because they seemed to interrupt the "flow" of the car's lines, and I have started started to modify the chassis to accept the wheels/tires and flathead from a Revell 48 ford custom kit. the grill is also from the 48 ford. thanks for looking! all comments and suggestions welcome. Billy
zaina Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 good work so far. that grille looks at home in this car.
oldcars Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 You stated that you don't want stock taillights. See if you can find the customs in an old AMT 57 chevy kit. It might work(or not?). Worth a shot. Richard
Hedgehog Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 thumbs up for this proyect buddy. It's on the way to the hall of fame.
BKcustoms Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Thanks Hedgehog! Well heres a small update, I was reading the current issue of MCM and I couldn't resist trying to make hood scoops like the ones in the mag and heres what I ended up with. I also made a windshield visor out of some scrap parts. I'm not sure if It's staying or not though. Let me know what you think!
CaptainAhab Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 the oldsmobile grill is rad and I say go with the visor. Keep up the good work.
