Eshaver Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 Casey, first , thank for taking the time to show a comparison . I guess I can overlook the wheel arches a lot more so than the Boo- Foo ed box interior . At 30.00 , I'm a whole lot more choosy rather than 2.00 even in 1960 spending power. It's too much for me to dissect the box to get what COULD have been done correctly . Revell is just as guilty , look at their 1965 Chevrolet's .

I guess I can overlook the wheel arches a lot more so than the Boo- Foo ed box interior. I'm all for a fair comparison and calling out the flaws when they are obvious to most, but the '60's era AMT Chevy pickup kits have some glaring shortcomings, too. I have never worked on one of the unibody(?) early '60s Ford pickups, but I do know the '62 Chevy Pickup did not have integral floorboards, bed underside, and frame as AMT depicted them in their '63 kit, so we should point that out in the interest of accuracy, too: I think the '60 Chevy shortbed is one of the best kits from AMT ever, and the inline six engine still holds up very, very well after 20+ years. The bed is simplified, but I guess it doesn't bother me as much since everything else about the kit easily passes the eye test for me. Now, I'm sure some trim details are not 100% correct, and there are other nits to pick, but for $30 or so retail this kit is one of the best values to be found....and that's without factoring in the go-kart. There's a good reason I have multiples of this kit in my stash, and why I've parted out several over the last few years for parts. While it's fun/interesting/insightful to compare the old AMT '60s Chevy pickups with this modern era kit, I think the newer kit is just fine being judged by itself, too. Eshaver Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Casey, I guess I'm lucky . I had access to a 1962 LWB Unibody F-100 with the base back window . I can honestly count on one hand how many Optional "Big Window cabs I've seen . I'd HATE to be the poor Glass installer who ever gets to install one of those windows because the chance of finding another would be dinner at the Academy awards banquet !

Mike999 Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 HobbyLinc has the '60 Fleetside box art up on its site. Says "Due late December, 2018." Start making your Christmas hints!

The Custom cab trim was not limited to the big back window cab and not rare to see on the small window cab either. Speaking from someone who has studied the truck for decades and has a passion for them lol!
Mr. Metallic Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 And for those asking why the streamliner shell isn't with the kart, the answer is, it simply wouldn't fit in the bed of this shortbed 60. It overhangs the longbed 63 Ford it came with... If it's true that they had to make some new tooling to recreate the go-kart, that they will stretch those dollars further by putting the streamliner kart in a different kit in the future. But, having the standard kart is great, and I get a 60 chevy pickup with it

Or as a stand-alone Parts Pack offering.

stavanzer Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Aaaand Its here!!! Thanks Again, Chris. Some of the Best reviews on the tube.
Jim B Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 It's a nice looking truck. Very classic Chevrolet. Maybe it's just me, I don't know; but I've always thought the turn signals on the hood looked like nostrils. Is that weird?

Just an unusual detail of an era of flamboyant styling, I guess..similar to the '59 Chevy full size cars..

1972coronet Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Looks like a nice piece for sure ! Only one nit to pick : the decals have an esoteric typo ; the phone number is a phantom ! There were no COX ( Central Office eXchange ) number which started with "CJ" ! Certainly , there was "CA" ( "CApitol" , for an instance ) , "CE" ( "CEntral" ,for an instance ) "CH" ( "CHapel" ,for instance ) "CI" ( "CItrus"...) , etc . , etc. If they were aiming for a COX number with "25" as its prefix , they could have , in theory , aimed for "AK" or some such. Easy 'fix' , and something that hardly anyone younger than 45 would understand , but... yeah , historical accuracy .

Kind of funny, On my Cannonball Septic truck entry, I used JL5-2020, from the Ghost Busters. Nobody caught it yet. Who ya gonna call?
Oldmopars Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 BTW, how do these compare to the Revell 64 Chevy truck? I see the top of the cab is the same design. I want to build a copy of my 1:1. Its a 65 Chevy long bed fleetside with a 230 inline 6. So, I think I will need 3 kits to make it happen. 1 AMT for the engine, 2 Revells to get the bed right.

They are very similar, and all (if we're counting Revell's '64, '65, and '66 as three distinct kits) very good kits, with no major issues. I'm sure people will be parting out or trading off the balance of the AMT '60 Fleetside kit after they remove the go-kart, so you likely will not need to pay for a full kit if you're only after the engine. Same for a second bed from Revell's '64 or '66 kits.

Other fun numbers which don't exist ? : - "DIamond-19026" . That was Sphan's Movie Ranch's number ; it's long out-of-service and has not been reassigned . - "UNiversity-75309" . Also translates to , "8-6-7-5-3-0-9..." . Those old COX numbers aren't arbitrary ; they actually served a purpose .

Not at all like the 235 in the 1960 kit. Probably easier to swap a V8 into your 1:1.
JimC Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Just picked this up at hobby lobby. $19 with coupon. Already have one in my stash but that box art is irresistible. The go-kart looks killer too.
