Ira Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 Ira...I don't know what else to say. I'm lovin' this build. Thanks Jon! Lookin awesome Ira. Corey Thanks Corey!
Zarana-X Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) Looks good, but the decals for Inch Pincher Too! are out of place. Inch Pincher, and Inch Pincher Too were famous drag Bugs back in the day. Like altereds, and the Fiats & Anglias, they would beat the bigger (and much heavier) cars until they seperated them into different classes. Edited October 29, 2012 by Zarana-X
lanesteele240 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 those decals make the paint job. at first i thought the green was to much but you tricked me
cavemanx Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Lovin this beast!!!... Bug... Idk. I'm gonna stay posted with this one! Great job so far!
Ira Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 I like the way the rollbar comes through the rear window. Thanks Ray! Cool Willys Head is so big I couldn't fit the Rollbar inside...

Skip Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Looks good, but the decals for Inch Pincher Too! are out of place. Inch Pincher, and Inch Pincher Too were famous drag Bugs back in the day. Like altereds, and the Fiats & Anglias, they would beat the bigger (and much heavier) cars until they seperated them into different classes. FYI - The Empi Inch Pincher and the other drag bugs were classed into the Gas Class I think H/Gas and I/Gas depending on the pounds to cubic inch formula used. For the most part they never did heads up with the larger cars, when they did it was lame, more like bracket racing than heads up. Darrel Vitone had more than a few Inch Pinchers the last being a Fiat Spyder with flat four. Gene (and Doug) Berg also ran the same classes, as did the Iguana, Lloyd Mosiers (sp?) "Little Giant Killer" Fiat 600 at the high point of the Gas class there were only a handful of really competitive Gas Class VW's. Most were in southern California, with the exception of Gene Berg who was at the time up here in Kent, Washington (I made my self a pest at his shop on more than a few occasions). There were more than a few oddballs running slightly more than warmed over stock turning 16's to 18's in the quarter mile then driving them home if they didn't break. Empi mainly made bolt on parts for those guys not the gassers, those guys were making and developing their own. Empi was like the "Cal Custom" of the VW world. Most if not all of their parts make didn't your bug go any faster! During that time I was one of those oddballs running a mid-sixteen with a '57 oval window daily driver and I got towed home more than once after I broke. The only time that they would pair you up against anything bigger was a six cylinder Chevy II or Falcon, which usually ran against Corvairs. Either you have a selective memory or were not around the VW scene in the '60's and early '70's, when VW's got even less respect from the boys running Detroit iron than they do today. Back then a bug was a girl's car! Empi was also involved in the off road racing scene, go back and look at the early Baja 500 & 1000 VW entrys they ran sponser decals and or empi products. Inch Pincher was synonymous with Empi at the time, so you may just have seen a stock bodied or bobbed fendered bug runnnig "Inch Pincher" decals. So Ira's Inch Pincher decals are appropriate in every sense of the word. Not to mention as very eloquently did himself; "This is a Car-Toon Car, Remember...You can do anything you want with a Car-Toon... " I had that model when it was on the shelf, Revell never did put out a good VW engine. The engine from either the AMT Myer's Manx or Tow'd or the shortened "gasser bug" even though the engine was great the rest of the AMT VW's were extremely minimalistic. So it was a natural to combine the Revell or IMC body and AMT engine/transaxle.

Ira Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 (edited) REAR SHOCKS!!! The shocks are from the Revell Corvette Indy. With a little trimming they fit just right! Edited October 30, 2012 by Ira
crazyrichard Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 this keeps getting better and better love this
Ira Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 COOL WILLY GETS SOME COLOR!!! I sprayed Willys Head Flat White and then painted in the details with Acrylic Paints... The Silver Buttons on the Helmet were done with Silver paint applied with a toothpick...
W-409 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Like altereds, and the Fiats & Anglias, they would beat the bigger (and much heavier) cars until they seperated them into different classes. Then it's bit like this Finnish VW Bug that started racing on the late 70's. It won Finnish Championcip on Street Altered category and left a bunch of V8 powered American Cars behind. Later it was chopped like it is in this picture: The build looks very good! I always enjoy to following your builds, Ira. These Car-Toon cars are something that I would like to build also. These are fun and you do very nice job with every one of these.

Ira Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) COOL WILLY IS READY!!! After I painted Cool Willy with Acrylics, I sprayed him with Testors Dullcote to seal the paint. Then I put a Black "Detailer" Wash on his face. Next I painted over his Helmet, Lips & Glasses with Clear Gloss. The Shifter, Fire Extinguisher & Steering Wheel are all from the Parts Box... The Revell VW Dashboard is very nicely detailed. I added Gauge Decals a little paint and a Black "Detailer" Wash... Almost ready to put everything together... Edited October 31, 2012 by Ira
