Noob here (but I've been building since '67). Back in the late 1970s I bought an unbuilt Revell '62 Imperial (paid about nine bucks, IIRC) and started work on it. Then after I moved to CA in '81, I bought the real thing:

I had it for almost two years until a hit-and-run driver totaled it; during that time I worked more on the kit to make it look like mine including the dull paint and dents. Then it got packed away for thirty years; now I've pulled it out and mocked it up:

Mostly what's left to do is the interior (white with black dash and carpet) and some other little details before final assembly.

This was Mom and Dad's second and last new car, purchased in December of 1960. A ' 61 Pontiac Laurentian (Canadian), six cylinder and three speed. I used an MCW ' 61 Catalina for starters, and a liberal amount of parts from a whole bunch of other kits. The color is Shelltone Ivory, over Dawnfire Mist. The b & w photo is a picture of my Mom, posing with the car the following spring in ' 61. We kept the Pontiac until 1972, and it literally went everywhere, including two trips to the B.C coast. Then Dad no sooner traded it in, and it was purchased by someone who lived two blocks away. So, I got to see it a few times on my way to school that spring.

So far I've only built a model of one of the 20 cars I've had in full scale.This has been my daily driver since oct 2004. Last oct (2013) I bought a newer one, a 2006 model so I will shortly sell the old one. As You can see, I didn't only make a model of the car, but also of me and my lovely wife! I plan to switch the wheels as I have 18" wheels on the car these days (picture was taken in 2006)

These are two that I have pictures of the replicas handy. Sorry 1:1 pics long gone. Road Runner is about a 20+ year old build but still holding in there. the Supra was built last year. My Road Runner was actually a 69 and lacked the hemi but this was close enough. Correct colors etc.

Here's one I just finished recently, a replica of my wife Pam's '94 F-150 XL. I started with the AMT F-150 XLT kit, removed all the side trim, wheel-well trim, and opened up the grille, then snagged the side mirrors from Monogram's F-250 kit. I got the wrong side mirrors, but when I got them, she said they were right...too late now, they're on it! I added a diamond-plate step bumper, hitch, and scratch-made diamond-plate tool box. Oh, and Pam's ever present coffee mug is in the cup holder!

My styrene skills aren't good enough to make the body though (84 Ranger). I still own this truck and love it. I put a 347 Stroker, C-6, Dana 20 Transfer case and Explorer axles in it. Lockers front and rear.

While many modelers do, I don't build models of cars & trucks that I have owned or presently own as I have MANY other vehicles that I would like to build instead. As for vehicles I already own, I could just look at the real thing in the garage, right?

My mom got her drivers license last year so she's only ever owned one car: a '96 Opel Tigra. It's really a Ferrari for mothers.

My dad's owned more cars than I have fingers, he's the car enthusiast of the family and the one who got me into cars and model cars. Me myself? Never had the need for a car so I don't have a license. Now this summer, I'll get it though. I need to get out on the streets.

Here is my replica collection. The Chevelle is the Revell 67 but my mom had a 66 Malibu with Aztec bronze color.

The Ramcharger was made out of the MPC pick up and the AMT blazer.

The Z 28 is a combination of AMT and MPC Camaros to get the right pieces.

The Jeep is MPC OOB with moons and antenna added
