Mercman Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 You all know the old saying the "best laid plans of mice and men". Well it's true. The family, wife, and kid, had planned had planned to go to this music festival, however that is now on hold. The kid has to go in and have surgery. Nothing really major, but shouldn't be postponed due to it could be. She was packing up her gear last night for the trip, and one of her pets bit her on the finger, yeah it was a mouse. Well a few hours after the bite, her finger swelled up to the size of a polish sausage. Sooooooo at 2:30 this AM I had to take her into the ER to be checked. This morning after a follow up visit, she now goes in for surgery on Fri. This is the preventive part. They are going to open the finger up, and scrape, and flush it out, to prevent any infection. She could wait to see what happens, but the possibility of it spreading up further into her arm, would mean more areas to be opened. She feels so bad that this happened, and we will have to miss the festival. Toby Kieth, and Alabama are 2 of the 3 headliners. I assured her it was no big deal. That and she really wanted to see this one performer so badly. Oh well whats a father to do? I told her that this is my job, to take care of her, but it still bugs her that she thinks she ruined my weekend. So just a bit of advice watch your pets, and kids, who knows what may happen. Like the one country song says, I don't care if your 80 your still my baby.
cobraman Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Good daddy. You could still take her to a movie or something if she feels up to it. Hope all is well and that she will feel fine.

mikemodeler Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 There will be another concert another time but that infection is nothing to mess with! Find something else to do this weekend and look to see when Toby & Bama will be playing elsewhere, maybe there is a roadtrip in your future!
Hedgehog Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Everything happens for a reason and I'm sure she will feel better if you all together do something nice this weekend
charlie8575 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Burns Original Wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim'rous beastie, O, what a panic's in thy breastie! Thou need na start awa sae hasty Wi bickering brattle! I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee, Wi' murdering pattle. I'm truly sorry man's dominion Has broken Nature's social union, An' justifies that ill opinion Which makes thee startle At me, thy poor, earth born companion An' fellow mortal! I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve; What then? poor beastie, thou maun live! A daimen icker in a thrave 'S a sma' request; I'll get a blessin wi' the lave, An' never miss't. Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin! It's silly wa's the win's are strewin! An' naething, now, to big a new ane, O' foggage green! An' bleak December's win's ensuin, Baith snell an' keen! Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste, An' weary winter comin fast, An' cozie here, beneath the blast, Thou thought to dwell, Till crash! the cruel coulter past Out thro' thy cell. That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble, Has cost thee monie a weary nibble! Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble, But house or hald, To thole the winter's sleety dribble, An' cranreuch cauld. But Mousie, thou art no thy lane, In proving foresight may be vain: The best laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley, An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain, For promis'd joy! Still thou are blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth thee: But och! I backward cast my e'e, On prospects drear! An' forward, tho' I canna see, I guess an' fear!
Lunajammer Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 A puddlian o' the well do ne'er For Burns be know'n few dare. Thine spittle haste cast and tru' upon Ye hacken o' verbiage 'n' mess'd yon to'nge
Olskoolrodder Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Brother,I'm sorry to hear about your daughter,I hope she feels better and there's no issues with the bite/surgery. Added to our prayers. And yeah,"good Dad"!
CorvairJim Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I'm sure you'll find a way to see a show with her sometime soon. Be sure to remind her that it isn't her fault. Accidents happen when pets are concerned (Perhaps it's time THIS pet met with an "Accident" of it's own... Just kidding!). Is there some way you can get word through to the performers through their agents about her mishap and maybe get her an autograph or something? Whatever the case, you're all in our prayers.
Mercman Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Thanks guys for all the thoughts. This particular weekend seems to be plagued by bad luck for us. One year the the wife broke her nose in a accident, this year she has a busted big toe to deal with. Last years a couple days before, I thought I had a heart attack. Now this year this. I think I'm going back to my real love of music, Rock and Roll. Never had any problems then. Gotta be at the surgery center mat 5:30 this AM.

cobraman Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Forgot to mention she's 24 Y.O. My daughter will be 26 at the end of this month. Age doesn't matter, she is still my little girl even as an adult.
slusher Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 My dad told me at 16 " your children when there small step on your feet and when they grow up they step on your heart" which means you worry about them when they grow up. Your still taking care of her way to go...
Mercman Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Surgery update, everything is fine, no problems, or infections we caught it early. She'll be on anti-biotics for 10 days, with a 24 stay in the hosp. Thanks for all of your thoughts guys we appreciate them. PS-- the mouse will be going soon.
crazyjim Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 That's good to hear. The mouse is still there? Do you know Gary Stegmiller?
