Lets say for a minute you could build your self a hobby room (man cave) any way you wanted ( i know some on here already have a nice hobby room), how would you set it up?, what would you do?

Either a large bedroom lined with shelves and a 2x10' workbench, situated in such a manner that a spray booth can be directly evacuated out a window, or someplace in a dry, dehumidified basement, with a similar spraying area, and set aside from the woodshop.

I'd also have my drafting table and cabinets in there, too.

Either would be well-lit with color-corrected lighting for accurate paint matching.

I'd also like a mini machine shop and some photo-etching equipment.

I would love to have a workroom that's partitioned into at least three areas: a painting booth/room I could hose down every week, a work section where I can build, and then a showroom where I can keep all the kits and finished models.

Finished basement with heat and air. Paint booth, big screen TV, pool table, juke box, wall of cabinets with glass doors. Also fridge, micowave. I guess that would be a start.

I'll be building one as soon as it cools off! Air Conditioning is mandatory I have discovered since living here and as tightly sealed as possible to eliminate dust.

This is the room where my Slot Car Track was before the fire! I' m going to miss that Track, and all the races

we held on it, but I'm not up to another 5 years to rebuild it! Forgive the sloppy drawing please, but I didn't have a straight edge, when I did it ,and it is only meant to be a guide to let the contracters know how I want it aranged. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve it just say so. ThThis will be built when our house is rebuilt.the floor will be pale grey tile, the walls white semi gloss enamel, atleast two four plug in electrical outlet on each walll, the ceiling will be satin white enamel with plenty of daylighting to make the room nice and bright for working! I would also like to have a small sink, but i have to wait and see if the contracter thinks it can be done without busting the budget for the build!

The bulge in the center of the shelves

Just above this should say microwave.

There will be a small 4 cup coffee maker

right beside it. I will have a small floor standing

refrigerater right beside the hallway wall for drinks and snackes. Also there will be

a small square refrigerater for storing glues and resins to extend their shelf life!

These two merged would be kinda nice :D

Don't forget a bathroom too of course... and as Bart said... younger women... LOL.

Haven't figured out the layout yet, don't know what the room looks like, but I have the cabinets already. Now my wife and I just need to buy the house where it'll be. She's already given me the basement just for such a thing. It'll have a work area for the usual building and brush painting with the cabinets above. And then I'll build a vented paint booth lined with sheet metal for easy cleaning. Just wipe it down with thinner or whatever. The entire room will be sealed...walls, ceiling, and epoxyed floor (the garage floor stuff). Also would like to build lighted display cases for all the finished models in a separate area. Sounds like a dream, but it'll be a reality within about five years or so...at least the house will be. Then I can build away.

Actually, I'd probably put a radio in if I was upstairs or could position it for reception in the basement (or get an exterior antenna.) Wherever I end up, it'll probably be in the house, so a kitchen and bathroom will probably be pretty nearby anyway.

One other thing I think I might put in is some bookshelves for reference and possibly a swing-out laptop stand.

I've got plans...but I need a basement first... in the past, I've used a spare bedroom...currently, I'm using a spare bedroom as my home office and hobby room, but it's a bit cramped.

Mine is pretty good as is...it's my attached garage, I've got heat from the boiler...put in a window air conditioner in the side door, I probably could use more storage. I know I could use more lights! I'm gonna paint the finished walls & ceiling white one day...to get it brighter coz it's just the natural plywood color now. One day!! LOL!!

my room/ area now but with my completed paint booth and my future display area i have yet to start building. already have a fridge. good sounding audio system, computer, t.v., a/c, good lighting, and plenty of shelving. just need more parts, kits, and materials/paints to fill it all up a bit more.

Having recently moved half way across the country, from a big house to an apartment, I would love...

A first floor hobby room with a firematic theme(I build mostly emergency vehicle models and helicopters). A separate paint room, display area, and building area would be great. Also, an area to place my dedicated decal printing computer/printer. Lastly, a temperature controlled storage area for "the stash". The decor would be like that of a turn of the century firehouse. Exposed brick walls, bead board paneling, firematic memorabelia(sp?)... Boy, I CAN'T WAIT TIL WE BUY A HOUSE!!! :D :D :D

I would like about a 20x20 room, a 32" plasma tv, and a couple nice, glass shelved curio cabinets to display my nicer builds and lots of shelf space for the rest. I would also like a couch so the wife and kid can come hang out and watch tv. A nice sized closet would be nice for kit storage.

I'm very happy with my 10' x 20' heated/air conditioned room in the shop. I have cold running water, plenty of power, spray booth, work desk, 7' x 2 1/2' workbench, storage cabinets, stereo, TV, computer, lights. All I need are some of those women that Bart mentioned.

Boy, how could I have forgotten the bathroom. Since I'm married to a very good woman I will trade the younger women for a good exhaust fan in the bathroom. : )

I also am planning a man cave separate from a hobby room for my next house...a home theatre room w/ multiple TVs for watching several races simultaneously (I have a setup now w/ 60 inch and 32 inch HDTVs on one wall of my living room, but the room is too small to go larger), 7.1 surround sound, movie posters, racing posters, etc on the walls...

I would like to have it all in one, just big man cave, what better way to enjoy manhood then being able to work on models while watching sports in peace

I want to compartmentalize so I can close off the hobby room to keep the dogs out...and when I have guests over.

And I can completely agree with that, good reasons to want them separate
