Rob Hall Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 The green thingy looks like an outboard motor. The other pointy thing looks to be a windvane or compass of some sort (the thing on the flagstand)
Brian_B Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Harpoon or wind-vane In rough water...i agree..harpoon! Ouch!!!
pepperdrumstix Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Flag stand. All boats have to have one with a flag. My buddy up in Ollcot NY on the shore of lake Ontario is a captain of a local fishing boat and once flew an AZ flag I sent him. He was stopped by the coast guard and they wanted to know why he was flying a Japanese flag on his boat. He told them it was an AZ state flag and they told him to remove it and fly a flag of NY. It is also a stern light, the round white thing. So even these small boats have to fly a local or state flag. I would love to have kits of that Chevy Suburban and that boat, pointy thing and all. Patrick Wierd...is that a coastal/border area thing? I can't imagine why a boat would need a flag.. Edited August 20, 2012 by Rob Hall

Greg Myers Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Pirates? Well take care of your pirates.
george 53 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Only thing I see on the BACK of the boat is a motor mounted to the transom.
DanielG Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Look at the construction, I don't think that they make boats like that anymore.
sjordan2 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Obviously a weathervane, mounted in a humorous vein.
peter31a Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Ron, that's exactly what I thought when I saw it. It looks like a lightning rod from the top of a barn or old house.
LoneWolf15 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 The " white " thing is a navigational light , required by law . The green " thing " is an out board motor . Given the size , it appears to be between a 2 1/2 to 5 hp motor . A boat of this construction is worth a small fortune in this day and age , given the craftmanship that goes into it . Flags ? I can't vouch for too many other states , but Pa and the Tri state area do not require them for outboard water craft .
SSNJim Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Obviously a weathervane, mounted in a humorous vein. I agree with that. What gets me is the capstan mounted in the bow. It's the vertical cylinder with 6 spokes on top. I'm assuming that a horizontal line comes off the front, through a pulley under the stem, and up through the hook looking thing on the stem. I would think that it is anchor handling gear, but it seems kind of overkill for a boat that size.

SSNJim Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 True enough, but what gets me is that it is there at all. Maybe I'm wrong about it all together; most boats that size don't have one.
mistermodel Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Im sure its there for kicks and giggles, but it is a full on lightning rod.I have seen them just like that one with a glass bulb on a house i worked on once
Chuck Most Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Why, that would be a weather vane. I have one similar to it on the peak of the old barn out back. That particular one could serve double duty as a lighting rod.
1930fordpickup Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I am with Chuck on this one . Looks like the three on top of the parents house , just no weather vain arrow. This is just a bunch of old stuff put in and on an old boat. Most of it just belongs on a boat . Also no flag needed for a small boat on the great lakes.
moparmagiclives Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 It points to where the fish are Ahh, or does it? Only if that's what he wants the most... Whys the rum gone !!!
