Since the Cougar CBP seems to be defunct, I'll move this to the workbench section.

I'm building this for a themed contest this October. This is the AMT '69 Cougar. I'm building it seventies style with a rake and a tunnel rammed big block. I'm enjoying the weathering. Aside from the primer, the body is all done with acrylic craft paints applied with a sponge. Lots more rust coming up. Plenty of washes and grime. The front fenders will stay in grey primer but look pretty neglected. The hood will be another color as well. More soon.

That paintwork is awesome! A assume you primered the entire body before applying the paint, right? Did you have any problems getting the acrylic craft paint to "stick and hold" to the primer?

Yep, Krylon Ruddy Brown primer. And no, the acrylic seems to hang on just fine. When I was using the 70% alcohol it does get a little soft and will peel off if you aren't careful. So I would apply the alcohol, scrub a bit and then wash the alcohol off with water and scrub a little more. Wash, rinse, repeat.

After an unsuccessful attempt at some realistic weathering, the dirty kitty is in the dip. I'm going to try something more like what I did with my '37 Chevy.

It looks more like mud.

Here's the '37.

Rob, if this was mine, I would have stopped and been happy. But after seeing the '39, I understand, it looks much more realistic!

Guys, It's time to resurrect this thread. I have this one back on the bench. It will be less crusty, less rusty but it will scream '70's BEATER! Big fat nasty rear wheels, nose down rake, tunnel rammed Ford big block.

It's even got a theme, which as you may know is what I really enjoy. Here's a hint.

"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."

First off a big thank you to Erik Smith who provided this unmolested replacement body. The damage I had done to the original trying for rusted out holes, was considerable.

So here's where I started last night. After these photos I took some 1K grit sandpaper and started in on the body, sanding until primer started to peek through and then eased up. I have now a very thin paint effect like you might get after removing surface rust. The hood is mismatched in a dark red and black. More pics tonight.
