KingSix Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Indeed! I had the non Shelby version with the quad headlight set up. Could eat Cavaliers and Escorts and most other non turbo fours all day. I said it before, I had the Omni ( squared off hatchback ) Shelby GLHS back in the day. I got it because my parents insurance was astronomical for a VW GTI .. go figure the Shelby was 20X the car the GTI was. From a roll or a dead start that little Shelby would humiliate Camaros and Mustangs of the day.. Of all the cars and trucks I've had over the years , it's a toss up between either one of the 2 '69 Roadrunners I had or the GLHS. Gas prices being what they are today, I think the GLHS would win ..
Furiousgeorge Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I got a '71 Charger street machine, '69 Barracuda, '75 Dart/Duster, and ordered a '70 'Cuda. All courtesy of EBay.
Danny Lectro Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) I don't know as if I'll ever build the kit but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Looks like I've caught "Travolta Fever" I had a later release of that Firebird, without Travolta's name on it. It had a dual 4-barrel tunnel ram setup, with velocity stacks sticking out of the hood. As I remember, it wasn't a half-bad kit, my skills at the time were just not ready to do it justice. I'd love to find another one someday. Edited November 17, 2013 by Danny Lectro

KingSix Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Speaking of T/A's .. I picked this MPC T/A and a TJ Hooker lightbar off eBay to make the Nevada Highway Patrol T/A form the opening scene of The Cannonball Run ..now I just need to order 2 different sets of NHP decals to make the correct ones .. this hobby is pricey ...
The70judgeman Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I have a later issue of that kit and this is what I want to do with it. As the car from "The Jerk" Not a big fan of all the added, ahem, "stuff" on the Travolta T/A and the T/A from "The Jerk" , but aren't those basically the "Macho T/A's" without the decals?
Daddyfink Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 These T/A edition are purely Barris atrocities. He may have started with Macho Trans Ams, but in the end this is all him.
Austin T Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 How is the Silverado Austin? The Silverado is a decent looking kit. The box is truly the work of Satan himself, you have to open one of the side flaps which means the box is opened permanently. I picked it up because my Grandfather has the exact same truck, even the same color as the one on the box.
jrherald420 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) LOL ^^^ I just won a 1/12 57 Chevy on Ebay. Been wanting one for some time now. martinfan5 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Nice haul, I want that Alpina! Its not a very good kit
Terminator-Fox Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Was that bike ever sold in the States? Joe. I'm not completely sure on that. Yamaha TZ250's were never street legal to begin with. Pure race only bikes. I'm a huge 80's-90's sport bike/ race bike nut too. My dad road raced in the 90's and I just love all those old sport bikes now.

It's hinged in the back...but once you open them they instantly lose all structural integrity and begin to self-biodegrade. Once you open and close them say 3 times, the side walls blow out and you wind up having to go around a few times with duct tape just to have a "box" like thing to put the parts into...
jrherald420 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) No Austin is right. I have several boxes that open the same way. I bought that same kit several years ago and it was the same way as Austins is. Got a Mustang Mach III kit right now that is also the same way. Edited November 18, 2013 by jrherald420

It sounds as if Mr. Duff and myself are the only two modelers in the world who can correctly open a Revell/Monogram clamshell self degrading box. Oh, and Mr. Duff, I prefer clear packaging tape to repair my boxes. I might be from WV, but duct tape just seems too "redneck"!

The only boxes that actually open on the end - that are DESIGNED to open on the end are the Lindberg/Testors '06 Dodge Chargers, and Revell of Germany kits. Some of the box sides have some glue keeping them from opening like the clam shell they are, another useless aspect of those boxes. but none-the-less they really do open if you don't lose your patience and attack them like a rabid beaver.

Mr Duff, how many "how to open a model kit box 101" classes are you going to be teaching here ?
charlie8575 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Mr Duff, how many "how to open a model kit box 101" classes are you going to be teaching here ? I have more experience in education and therefore can be moved to school administration.... What type of discipline policies shall we set for failure to learn how to open boxes correctly? I'm thinking banishment to Palmer and Premier kits for a month. Charlie Larkin

I understand, I have several "Donut box" kits and I don't like the box. This one the front is glued down to where I would rip the box apart if I tried to open it like a donut box. I don't know if it's designed like that or if some revell employee got a little glue happy. The sides are also not connected to the front of the box where it should open. Either way I got the kit I I'm happy.
Tom Geiger Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) I do own one of the Revell '48 Ford woody kits that someone opened from the side, as Mr Duff mentions. It opened just like a box of cereal and indeed the flaps don't shut again. It's actually more sturdy than opening it the right way! I think I got it cheap at a show or club meeting. Oh, by the way, the later Johan kits like the '62 Studebaker convertible and '62 Rambler taxi opened from side flaps. Edited November 18, 2013 by Tom Geiger
Lownslow Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Its not a very good kit this will be my third build aside from the front bumper fit ive never had problems

niteowl7710 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Slept through the FedEx driver's baby knocks this morning, but this kit which drop shipped via SAL out of HLJ on Halloween showed up today. So even when I'm not getting my HLJ box...I'm still getting my HLJ box!
Rob Hall Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 My HLJ FedEx shipment isn't due till Wed-Thurs but I'll have it dropped at the local FedEx store, since they would probably try and deliver it when I'm at work...
