wgflatliner Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Got a photo etch and carbon decal combo set for the tamiya sauber Mercedes c9 from Scale Motorsport. The photo etch set isn't bad. The instructions come on a weird wax paper and tells you to hold it up to the box art so you can have an idea where the parts go, however the outline on the instructions does not match the box art whatsoever. There are a couple of part call-outs that don't match either. I'm sure I will figure it out though
mookie Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I got jacked. My cousin got kicked out of his house so he is living with us, and he had some "friends" over that consider themselves "graffiti artists," they went into my room and took almost all of my paint. It is so frustrating how I cant even be safe in my own house. Sorry if this is not on topic, but I just need to let out some aggression.
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I'm sure someone will chime in on how they are totally different but it is a good base to start from I think Totally? No. Most of the sheetmetal was the same, should actually be a fairly simple conversion.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Javier, sorry to hear about the paint. Maybe you can get your brother, since they were his friends, to get you some replacements.
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 There are certain family members I don't let into my home anymore for similar reasons. Pretty sad when it has to happen like that, but you've got to do what's necessary.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Sorry, cousin it is. He should buy you some new paints.
JamesW Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 That's why I don't really keep friends (no choice to have the family though). I have many "friends" screw me over in the past I find it's easier to just keep to myself.
Tonioseven Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Aoshima's 2-piece metal Hayashi's with stretchwalls DETAILS?! :o
Tonioseven Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) The tires need work and the wings are too small. I'll work with them though. Edited December 1, 2011 by Tonioseven
Dr. Cranky Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Those look cool. I have a few sets of those Aeoshima tires, and for the most part they are excellent.
Dave42 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) The mug came today, the book last week. Two birds, one stone. Both Christmas gifts, not "allowed" to use or peruse, but can't wait. http://public.fotki....m/dsc05888.html Edited December 1, 2011 by Dave42
Erik Smith Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Because I have seen a couple great builds with this kit - nice kit, and cheap For the SOHC 427 ...and Micro brass tube - telescoping. Pretty cool - now I just have to find something to do with it.
Maindrian Pace Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Waitin for me when I got home. I built that one in the early '80s, painted dark metallic blue with the wire wheels from the Monogram Corvette America kit. Looked fantastic, I want another one. -MJS
Tonioseven Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Antonio, Aoshima has two sets of the two-piece metal wheels out currently, the Hayashi's and Shadow's. the centers are cast in white metal and need a little work before they will slip into the aluminum sleeves. i almost think that the centers could have been better done in styrene with the aluminum sleeves but i have an idea for how to finish the Hayashi's that i think will work nicely. something else too that i think could have been VERY cool if not slight overkill would have been a lip on both sides of the sleeve to represent the part of the rim with the bead so that the tire sat just inside of that lip. i think that would have been and incredibly cool and realistic touch I agree! I might have to see about getting a set. oh, and yeah, the Hobby Design tires need some work right out of the package they remind me a bit of the old SAS tires Those H.D. tires wouldn't be so bad but they're messed up on the same side with is okay for two of them but the other two are gonna need a bit of help.
Tonioseven Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Agreed; the tires don't seem to "give" much either. I'm underwhelmed with the whole purchase but I'll do what I can with them.
simonr Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Jmmm...is this a .4,.6, .8, 1.0 mm tubing set?...Who makes it?...Where you got 'em?...How much?..Do you know if where you got it can I get the same set, but, in aluminum?..Just let me knos as soon as you can. Thanks! Simón P. Rivera Torres Micro brass tube - telescoping. Pretty cool - now I just have to find something to do with it.
LDO Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 A couple of builtups off eBay. Tamiya's 1/6 scale Suzuki GSX1100S Katana and Kawasaki Z 1300 with inline-6 engine.

Thanks! Simón P. Rivera Torres Simon - Yes, .4 - 1.0 mm brass tube - they make it all the way down to .3 mm OD. Made by Albion Alloys. Tiny, fragile stuff but really cool - nice thin walls - more to scale than any K and S brass. I purchased it from Sprue Brothers online. No aluminum in the micro - just brass and nickel silver. It's all expensive!
Casey Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 This is just the body, hood, and tailgate, but I received my end of a trade with member Demoninc (aka, Mike Whetstone) today. Mike's a good trader and I'm glad to have finally gotten my hands on a 1/16 Revell Jeep
Wagoneer81 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 At last nights Muncie Modelers meeting, a friend gave me an original set of decals from the 'Movin' On' Kenworth kit... They look to be in really good shape... Gee, now I need to buy another W900... Ohh, Shucky Darn!
DavidChampagne Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 The "Hobby Lobby" in Houma, La. has 30% off all plastic models. Wish they still carried Tamiya. Bought a "Munsters DRAG-U-LA", had one of the headlite things missing. Went back to replace it (no problem), bought a 1/16 General Lee and a few other things, including a cutting mat.
Longbox55 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I stopped at the Hobby Lobby in Champaign IL while I out Christmas shopping, picked up an AMT '62 Electra (30% off), a WW2 Maisto 1/24 Harley, and Flex-I-File kit (40% off coupon). I also it Slot & Wing Hobbies, which si the only real hobby shop in my area. Not much in their scratch and dent area, but i did get the currect release of the AMT '50 Chevy pickup and Revell '57 Bel Air sedan. Howver, while I was there, I noticed a stack of 4 older kits on the counter. Wasn't sure if they were for sake or not, so as i was leaving, i asked. they said that they were bought froma fellow who was moving, and that they had also got a bunch of train stuff from him, too. After a little looking for rough pricing, we came up with $75 (plus tax) for the whole lot. So I also came home with a 4 '70s vintage kits, a Monogram '41 Lincoln continental, a JoHan '31 Cadillac Cabriolet, and 2 MPC Connoissuer Classics, the '32 LeBaron Chrysler Imperial, and a 1914 Stutz Bearcat, all in the original boxes and complete, other than the Caddy missing the instruction sheet.
Rob Hall Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Went on an end of the month eBay spree earlier this week and snagged a few interesting old MPC kits...unbuilt '82 Ford EXP (never had that one before), unbuilt '77 Monza (have the '76 and '79), unbuilt '79 Nova, and built and restorable original issue '71 Road Runner (I have 4 of these + the GTX, but love this style Mopie)..
