Hollywood Jim Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Hey guys, here is my next project. I’m already a few weeks into this project so I will post some progress pictures in the next few days so you can catch up to where I am in the building process. My inspiration is this drawing I found on the H.A.M.B. Forum, drawn by Jeff Norwell. I want to do a 1/25th scale garage diorama all in black and white except for the car. The car will be the only thing in color. I did some mock-ups so I could see what it would look like and determine the size of things. I started with the car. The garage will depict a scene from around 1957. The car will be a period correct 32’ Ford. Something like this: The first thing was to create a correct stock frame. A stock frame is pictured on the bottom. I started with the Revell frame on the top. In the middle is the Revell frame with some modifications. . . . .
Ramfins59 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 This should be cool Jim. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Oh yes, your retirement has been really good for us! Keep the eye candy coming.
Austin T Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Looking Forward to this one Jim, I remember a few years back when Raybestos gave away the real car pictured.
southpier Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 you're gonna need some grey in there .....

gasser59 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I, too, am looking forward to this. I had a sneak peek at some of this and its really cool already.
Hollywood Jim Posted December 22, 2012 Author Posted December 22, 2012 Here are some of the parts for the car. I made stock interior door inserts. The guy who is building this car got a Hemi engine from a wrecked 1955 Chrysler 300. Here is how the car looks today. . . . .
Tony T Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Looks good so far! Nice concept and execution!
Hollywood Jim Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 OK, Here we go. The framing has begun. This will be an old wood floor garage like those built in the 30's and 40's. It will be like the one my father had. . . . .
Tony T Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Great start on the framing. The floor looks awesome!
Foxer Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Interesting idea . if I understand correctly .. is this it? ..
Hollywood Jim Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Interesting idea . if I understand correctly .. is this it? .. Yeah that's it, except the body of the car will be red. Hey ! How did you do that? Make everything black and white except the car... ? . . .
SoCalCarCulture Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hey Jim - maybe some inspiration in these pics - as if you needed it! They are in THIS ALBUM.
Harry P. Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Yeah that's it, except the body of the car will be red. Hey ! How did you do that? Make everything black and white except the car... ? . . . You can do anything in Photoshop...
Foxer Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Yeah that's it, except the body of the car will be red. Hey ! How did you do that? Make everything black and white except the car... ? . . . Yeah, just a quick job in Photoshop. I sloppily highlighted the car and cut it, Then converted the photo to black and white and pasted the car back in. Should be fun building the garage in B&W!
Hollywood Jim Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 Hey Jim - maybe some inspiration in these pics - as if you needed it! They are in THIS ALBUM. WOW, those are very helpful. I'm making a list of junk I need to put in the garage. Pictures like this give me some ideas. THANK YOU !! . . .
charlie8575 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 A few years ago, one of the guys around here built a diorama in an old TV set that looked like a black-and-white gangsters show set in the 1930s. VERY cool. This will be good, too, and I'll look forward to watching it develop. Charlie Larkin
Dr. Cranky Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Hollywood, are you holding back on the eye candy?
Hollywood Jim Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 Yeah Crank, OK, OK, I got the outside walls up. But it's time to knock it off and spend time with the family. . . . .
