charlie8575 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 This man's work is beyond incredible. http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/intelligencerreport/plane.html Charlie Larkin
MAGNUM4342 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Just spectacular work! I'm embarrased to call myself a modeler next to him!
Harry P. Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I wonder where he gets such incredibly detailed plans from?
Skydime Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I kinda get the impression it is all scratch built. The work also gives me the impression that this is the result of years of hard work and dedication.
Harry P. Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Scratchbuilt, yes... but he's not making that internal stuff up out of thin air. He must have an incredibly detailed set of plans from somewhere that he's working from.
MAGNUM4342 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I wonder where he gets such incredibly detailed plans from? I was thinking that as well. Do you suppose that aircraft plans are available after said plane is de-commisioned?
charlie8575 Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 I wonder where he gets such incredibly detailed plans from? There have been some fairly-detailed cutaway plans of P-51s published over the years, Harry. I'll ask my dad and see if he knows where they are. Charlie Larkin
rel14 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Totally unbelieveable, the detail put in such a model, how many years of work? Lookin at that,,makes me want to never show one of my models again,,, That work shop of his is awesome too....has it all in there,,,
Darren B Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Thats how i feel every time i see such high level of scratch building then i just think I have to step my game up more.
GeeBee Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Absolutely brilliant work, this goes beyond modelling and is more miniture engineering ....
Sixx Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I've seen his work in Finescale mag., just not in detail like that!!! Geez...Looks like he built a real one!!
rmvw guy Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Okay, I was afraid to look after reading all the comments first Then I looked, it's just an airplane! I build cars so I'm still okay. No, really WOW!!!!!!!!
george 53 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 This gentleman has develped his hobby into an ARTform, not just a hobby anymore. If YOU spent as much time as he has you MAY be as good, given how deep the desire to excel can be. I do admire his work, but to put MY hobby away just caz someone is better than me is a silly thing for me to hear. ALOTTA the guys here are MUCH better than me, even with 50 years of bulding under my belt, but I can still appericiate a masters work, which THIS getleman IS. He is an ARTISTE not just a modeler!
Green Duster Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Wow! I feel like a 6 year old now. He did take it to the highest level. Not much better then that!
Chuck Doan Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Spectacular work. Nice way to see what the real thing looked like inside. Also makes me wonder how those planes could get shot up and still work.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I wonder where he gets such incredibly detailed plans from? Just FYI, warbirds have been being restored and raced since the end of WW2, and all the technical information (blueprints for every part, etc.), has been readily available for many many years, from many sources. And P-51s, as well as many other types, were sold to other countries for 'military' use after being obsoleted out of service in the US. Every bit of tech data went with them, and a lot has been on the open market for decades. There's tons of information available on '51s. Even Japanese Zero blueprints are available, as well as captured blueprints for German fighters...even the jets.
Art Anderson Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Scratchbuilt, yes... but he's not making that internal stuff up out of thin air. He must have an incredibly detailed set of plans from somewhere that he's working from. Harry, virtually all American aircraft manufacturer's engineering drawings since the very early 1930's exist someplace. For example,Boeing Aerospace (who also bought out North American [builder of the P-51 Mustang] and Vought-Sikorsky [Vought produced the F4U Corsair series]) maintains a very complete historical archive of their aircraft drawings, as well as drawings from the companies they absorbed, and they are available for a price. The same is true of Lockheed and Northrop-Grumman. Many of these drawings have been published in aircraft enthusiast magazines over the years as well. Art
Jantrix Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) I regard builders like this, as just guys like us..........................with an obsessive compulsive disorder. And you might think I'm being sarcastic, but I'm really not. Edited February 4, 2013 by Jantrix
jaydar Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 As i recall he is a retired dentist. And the scale he is working in is about double what we do, having said that the man is an artist in at least 3 different arts. joe.
A.R.C. Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 He`s realllllly reallllly good!!!! At Photoshop
Harry P. Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I can see having that kind of talent, what floors me is the amount of time he obviously has to put into any one model. I would lose my patience and interest long before I ever came close to finishing one.
