rmvw guy Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Okay maybe this is over kill but, what the hay. Decided to get it down off the lift where it has been for quite a while. Started this one a while back from a glue bomb I got from a club member who knew I liked Volkswagons. I've been trying to decide on an engine for a while. Originally I was going to use a SBC but, couldn't find one in my parts I liked. So I modified the chassis some more today ( the white rod), and now this Hemi fits. Think I'm going to need some wheelie bars.
MAGNUM4342 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Va-Va-Varoom! Great idea but...how you gonna keep it on the ground?
Custom Mike Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Ron, what is this overkill you speak of? I put a Hemi in a '99 Eclipse, and it even fits under the hood!
kennb Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 put gull wing doors on this and you got a flying machine
W-409 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Great Project! It looks very good already, keep going. We had one V8 Bug here in Finland, it was really mean car. Haven't seen it for a while, though. My buddy built his version of V8 Beetle in 1/25 scale too few years ago.
crazyrichard Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 awsome and i have seen a few v8 powered bugs here in holland 1:1
slusher Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Very cool ldea and build Ron and nice diorama.......
Custom Hearse Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 they came with a hemi stock LOL!!! Nice Ron! I like the way you have the figure posed checking the fit of the Hemi, and the workshop is totally cool! Looking forward to seeing more on this build!
Modlbldr Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Looking good. Somewhere on my camera I have photos of two VW's with 454's that I saw at a car show. Later-
chadrob30 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 they came with a hemi stock True story! I would love to find this kit...
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) they came with a hemi stock Huh ?? Beetle combustion chambers: Hemi combustion chamber: Not the same thing at all. Kool build by the way. You can never have too much power. Edited February 17, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
blunc Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I built one of these in the late 70's, only I built it with a SBC, put a pickup bed on it with a gen4 Vette tail light panel. It was canary yellow, wired, plumbed, upholstered (black terry-cloth carpet, hand-sewn black leather bucket seats), it even had mirrors and alternator bracket. It was awarded either a 1st or a "best in show" (been so long I don't remember anymore) at the 1979 Arizona World of Wheels model contest. it's currently in pieces because a few years later the plastruct sheet I used for the bed started to warp and I decided to rebuilt it with some better stuff, unfortunately "purple pond" wasn't around back then so I put it away for a few decades...
rmvw guy Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 put gull wing doors on this and you got a flying machine This gave me an Idea! In the middle of the night I awoke and made this sketch. The old IMC kit!!! I didn't know this, thanks! they came with a hemi stock I think you mean the IMC kit came with a Hemi. Here are the parts I got and yes that is a Hemi.A couple more pictures of mockup. Thanks for looking.
Zarana-X Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Nice work. I've got a stock IMC bug glubomb to restore, but im not in a hurry as I think it's worse than the Revell '68 Beetles.
Custom Hearse Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Looking good. Somewhere on my camera I have photos of two VW's with 454's that I saw at a car show. Later- I saw a Geo Metro at a car show in Springfield Mo. with a supercharged 454 and pro street tires at the car show here a few years back... I wish I had the pics still.
wrecker388 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) I wonder how easy this one would be to drive. Edited February 20, 2013 by wrecker388
