James Tester Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Nice Model and photography Tom. It really makes it look real! James
Randy Kern Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Looks fantastic, Tom. Those HOK oranges are my favorite colors. Subtle, yet still has that 'gotcha' factor.
Andy Wyatt Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I think Halloween arrived a week early! Love the color...one cool build!
VW Bug Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 very very nice model. great color choice. i also love the custom taillights, gives it a bit of character. oh, and your photography is great, too! now i have to ask, because it just seems odd to me, why do you use the rear exhaust and side exhaust (it is a side exhaust, right?)? i don't mean to sound rude or anything because your craftsmanship is great. keep up the good work!
Tom Kren Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 Tom, how did you achieve that outstanding satin finish? Did you use a clear topcoat? No clear just right out of the airbrush. its HOK paints their pearls come out like ya see i shot white primer and then the color
VW Bug Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 "Not Tom, but I think I can answer this one ... On most, but not all, 1:1 kustoms, the side exhausts (aka "lake pipes") are non-functional ... they are there strictly for looks. Revell correctly depicted this with its excellent '49 Merc kit. If you look at the underside, you'll see that the lake pipes don't actually hook up to anything."
Steve H. Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 I've already said it elsewhere... Awesome lookin' Merc! The satin finish really sets it apart!!
Wildrice Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Great build Tom. I must say it looks great in person too.
bsoder Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I can hear the Doo Wop from it ..Looks fantastic Tom
geetee66 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 G O R G E O U S ! I wish we could get HOK paint over here in the UK (If anyone knows of a UK supplier, let me know please!) Do the paints come in spray cans or do you need to get skilled with an airbrush? That is a beautiful build. I hope mine turns out half as good when I get around to it! I've saved the pics to my HD for reference, they're SO good! Brilliant!
showrods Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'm late to the show but…sooooo nice! Great work!
