Custom Built Trailers?

Anyone built custom trailers that arent kit supplied? I have a idea of what I am gonna do for mine, But I'd like to check out what you guys have come up with.

i used popsicle sticks and shelby wheels to make mine.

I made one from Plastruc to match a 454SS pickup. Don't have it any more though. Not hard to make.

i have just started my 1st trailer the other day nothing really nice just something a everyday shady tree mechanic/weekend warrior would be towing i started with rectangle stock and I-beam/H-beam and just cut and paste until it looked ok lol most fun i have had in a bit modelin now i'm workin on the wood bed where i'm take balsam wood and .060 H-column should be ok lol we'll have to see

I don't remember which kit it is nor do I remember what company it was,but I do recall a kit having the parts trees molded so you could build a trailer out of them I even believe the kit include the blue prints to do so.Sorry I'm not much help but maybe this will jog someone else's memory and can give more info on this kit.It may have been made by Johan not sure though

Thom, I think you're referring to an article I wrote for Car Modeler 14-years ago. Wow, what a flashback, thanks for remembering. The kit was the Lindberg Dodge 330. The sprue sheet was not provided in the kit with the intention of making the trailer and the fender patterns are not in the kit but I provided drawings in the article to assist interested builders. But one look at that sprue sheet and it just has trailer written all over it. I'll see if I can dig that out and post photos...

This may be what you're referring to Thom. It's the article I wrote regarding a sprue tree from the Lindberg Dodge 330. The build quality is so-so but the idea's pretty cool.

This is how the tree looks after all the parts are off.

If you enclose the risers and add axles, you can build it up almost any way you want. I patterned this after a trailer at a local rental yard.

And this is the car the sprue tree comes from with all the pieces together.

Here are a couple I scratch built. The rusty old utility trailer is made from Evergreen channel and sheet with 32 Ford wheels and fenders.

The teardrop is 1/12 scale, and hooks up to a 1/12 scale 57 Chevy in a campground diorama. It's made of plywood, basswood, aluminum flashing, and some styrene. The fenders are steel, from an old Tonka toy trailer.

I've built a couple teardrop in 1/25, too. One is a model of the full size teardrop I built in 2006.

i have a 330 wonder if i threw away the sprue tree? i still got the box. this sound interesting i may have to try it if it still exists in my closet.

Here’s a race rig I did in January. The trailer is scratch built from various styrene sheet, strip, rod and channel. The fenders are AMT ‘25T double kit rear cycle fenders and the springs are from an AMT ’37 Chevy kit, the modern rear axle. The trailer wheels and tires are also from the ’37 Chevy kit. Trailers are simple and fun to scratch together and race sets look cool on my shelf.

This very article came up yesterday at the Cincy show. My friend I was with seen two of the Dodge kits, bought both of them, and GAVE me one just so he could have that sprue tree. Great deal for me since I don't build trailers, and YES that tree just screams trailer!!!

I used to have a 1:1 tear drop trailer back around 1981. I towed it behind my '65 Barracuda. I didn't keep it that long because my girlfriend, now wife, didn't like it, and it really wasn't all that safe on the road. The trailer was home built so the center of gravity was wrong, putting too much weight on the tongue. That led to having air shocks fully loaded, just to get the car to sit straight. The Barracuda 6 cylinder brakes weren't good enough for this load either!

Finished my 18' utility trailer yesterday.
