CrazyGirl Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 built a little paint rack for the 1/4oz Testors paints , making another today for the 1/2oz ,, took just a few hours , nothing special but it works good , material cost about 20 dollars to build 3 or 4 racks
Monty Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) If you can find the thread, our own Drew Hierwarter did a similar project for his Model Master 1/2 oz bottles a short time ago. IIRC he routered holes part way through the bottom slats to keep the bottles from tipping over. Just a thought... Edited April 15, 2013 by Monty
Clemi Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Wow, really nice. I think I have to go to the hardware store tomorrow... Do you just glued it together or did you used small nails/screws?
CrazyGirl Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks guys ,,,,,, just titebond glue is all that's needed or any good wood glue
clovis Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Wow!!! Nice job on the rack!!!! It sure beats the tool box and tool tray that I'm using.
Lownslow Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 i would do that if i didnt have so much paint 3 drawers full and this mess
slusher Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Very nice job Anne..l can't build anything with wood.. Edited April 15, 2013 by slusher
CrazyGirl Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Finished the second paint rack and tomorrow I'll finish the bench , not bad for winging it
dragcarz Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I'm impressed, and your a great inspiration for my 10 year old daughter, she's taking guitar lessons and we build model cars. I share your posts with her, are you really 60?
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Don't take this the wrong way, CG... but nice rack!
CrazyGirl Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 yeppers , 60 and a rock & roller guitar picker and tell your daughter that girls can do anything and everything !!!! George I used 1/4 thick poplar ,, the small bottle rack I cut the strips 1 5/8 for the step and 1 1/8 for the riser and just used glue ,, the large bottles same wood just 1 3/4 step and same riser , very easy to make ,,,, why thank you Harry on both counts
vintagedragfan Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 look at you go girl! we are proud of you Anne, very nice craftsmanship!
vintagercr Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Very nice job! I have two girls who would build with me. Don't forget girls rule and boys drool.
wgflatliner Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 see if it was something i built, it'd be unlevel, different types of woods, and the dimensions wouldn't be correct. in seriousness, the racks look good (THE PAINT RACKS...) so i may build something similar. the only other thing i think would make it even better is if you had a really small diameter rod going horizontally across where it prevents the bottles from tipping over.
charlie8575 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Girl plays guitar, knows how to work with wood and woodworking tools and the kicker.....she builds model cars. Are you married ? Anne can you give up the dimensions and type of wood you used,I really like that paint rack and want to do one like it. Why can't I find a girl my age like this? Builder, musician...and a very good wood-worker. Charlie Larkin

Rob McKee Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Very nice rack! Really, I wish I had the skills to build that well. Great job.

I built mine back in 2006 when we moved into the new house and I did an article on it for that "other" magazine. Mine was a combination paint rack and tool holder. But frankly, I like Anne's much better.
rmvw guy Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Nice craftsmanship Anne. I wish I could be that neat with my paints. Oh and my wife says you are probably not even a girl.
CrazyGirl Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 well this is 2013 , not 1955 where gals just bake cakes and strum kumbaya on the guitar
crazyjim Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Very nice work. My paint rack is similar but not as well done. I keep the bottles in numerical order.
