mnwildpunk Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I got a call this morning from a friend saying he found a 70 ford mustang and if I was interested. even as a die hard MOPAR guy this is my favorite ford. I told him Ya one because #1 its my fav ford and #2 my fiance always wanted a mustang. i go look at it and long story short it's now in my garage. but I'm waiting to see if this is a present for my Fiance' or a one way ticket to the sofa. lol
kylexgore Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Even if you get the one way ticket to the sofa, I would say it's still worth the trip there! LOL.
Draggon Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Great score! that sofa joke was quite telling. When I read the subject of your post the first thing that popped into my mind was "geez, I've been waiting for a fiancee' for 20 years!" I dig the 70's too, I had made a down on a totally stock red grande around 1975. When I came to purchase it a few days later they had pimped it out with white vinyl lace decals and appliance fake basket wires on whitewalls. Needless to say I got my down back. What model is yours, and how about the drivetrain? Edited April 16, 2013 by Draggon
mnwildpunk Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 it's a 70 fastback motor is long gone but from the vin it reads as a H code which I guess from what I read is a 351 2 barrel
Hollywood Jim Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Wait a minute. # 1 You brought a 70' Mustang. # 2 Your wondering if you'll get in trouble. # 3 You say the motor is long gone. This story is quickly going down hill........ .
Guest Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 As long as you don't spend more on the car than you do the fiance, you should be OK.
mnwildpunk Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Body Is Solid it was not a MN car until 2 yrs ago when it was brought here from utah. oh it does have the four spd still
Harry P. Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 If it's a present for the old ball and chain, you better get it running before you give it to her!
kalbert Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Does it at least have all the glass incase you have to live out of it? Winter is still upon us...
Guest Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 If I pulled a stunt like that, I wouldnt even have the luxury of the sofa. How about posting some pics!
Albie D Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Ha! Word of warning, I'm still single because of stunts like that!
freakshow12 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Is it just a sportsroof or a Mach 1? Sounds like a good project with a Cleveland 4 spd. Good luck finding a Cleveland. They are getting scarce in rebuildable condition. I have a 71 4 barrel one complete carb to pan...

charlie8575 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Well, a '70 can still handle a small trailer if you find yourself compelled to relocate! Charlie Larkin
mnwildpunk Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Good question freak. Like I said it has an H in the vin but what I thought of fords was all 351's where mach 1's bit there isn't a single marking if that is so. But from what I read it's only a 2 v carb so I'm looking for an answer from the ford guys
1930fordpickup Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 H code says 351 that does not have to be the Cleveland . If it was a Mach 1 you would see tags or strips on the outside. Inside the door panels would have a marking also If I remember right. If you just going to drive it and enjoy it get a roller 5.0 with a 5 speed .It will be cheaper in the long run and will get down the road fine.
Ridge Rider Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I can't believe someone would be upset at getting a car as a present (even a classic needing work) but I guess it does happen. Best of luck.
2002p51 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 If the fiance gets upset about you buying a project car and would relegate you to the sofa, don't marry her, she's the wrong girl.
David G. Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 If the fiance gets upset about you buying a project car and would relegate you to the sofa, don't marry her, she's the wrong girl. Amen! David G.
philo426 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Post a pic of it!We should not even have to ask!The '70 Fast back stang is one of the best designs Ford came up with!
george 53 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I GOTTA agre with Drew and Dave! I been with mine for 41 years, and she has helped me change engines, transmissions, and can shift a mean 4 speed! I have NEVER been relegated to the couch (or anywhere else) because of a car!!!!!
mnwildpunk Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Well guys I got an answer from her I didn't expect. She loves it! She wants to work on it. The money wasn't a big deal because it's her dream car
Kaleb Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 That's awesome, in the words of some guys. "She's a keeper"
