Dr. Cranky Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Don't ask me why that name. I am thinking desert rust and good names for Franken-sh-shteined camp mules. So here we go. Kit = Revell's 57 Ford. Body sawed just behind the front door jamb. Jeep wheels in te back (for the right amount of traction) and regular wheels up front. The frame has been modified and the stake bed is completely scratch-built to give this one just the right level of attitude.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 The frame was fun and fairly easy to modify and build up to handle the bed.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 The fenders are the perfect size. They come from a milk carton cap cut in half.
Tom Geiger Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 No, no, no... you've completely voided the warranty on that kit!
wheaton79chris Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Ok doc can't wait to see where this goes from here
Dr. Cranky Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 LOL, we haven't seen warranties in the Lab-RAT-ory since 1892. LOL!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 Thanks, Chuck. This one will still run although it will have seen better days. We'll see how it goes.
Custom Hearse Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 This is gonna be an awesome build Virgil! This will be a definite "keep my eye on" project!
cobraman Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Now thats different. Looking forward to you progress and compleation.
James2 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 (edited) Great imagination Doc! I like it and thanks for the shot from behind so we can see how you closed in the cab. Those (cap) fenders look good also. Are ya gonna add a big old brush bar up front? Edited April 25, 2013 by James2

shucky Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 This one is on the wild side Doctor! Looks rad. Can't wait to see what the good "Doctor" is cookin' !!!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 26, 2013 Author Posted April 26, 2013 this would fit in with your doodle bug etc. thread.. Yes, definitely, I've been thinking about my contribution to that thread. This build could easily be it.Thanks for the support, everyone. I should have most of these components in primer tomorrow.
Tom Geiger Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I think you did too good a job on the back of the cab to call it a doodlebug! I'm thinking more like putting four snow tires on it, converting it to right hand drive and building an outback cruiser!
OldTimer50707 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 This is going to be crazy. My hat is off to you Dr. C.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 26, 2013 Author Posted April 26, 2013 Woah, I though the thread had disappeared, but happy to find again. Thanks for the kind words everyone. Today, I am adding final details and then we are painting primer on everything. This weekend should begin the painting fun. Stay tuned in, my friends.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 27, 2013 Author Posted April 27, 2013 Who-EE, still shooting primer. Should be done with it all today so I can start the painting tomorrow.

crazyjim Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Being a desert vehicle, wouldn't you want this thing to ride high? What an imagination you have, doc.
