Lovefordgalaxie Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Just finished this one. It's a rebuild of a 1962 issue AMT kit I bought on eBay. The old gal was built, but was all unpainted. Even tough it was not a glue bomb, the windshield was bad, it had some glue on it, and the glue had melted almost all the way trough, so I had to make a replacement glass, using my PET bottle technique. This was the only original part I was not able to salvage. The Galaxie was originally built factory stock, but the original builder choose to use the optional custom wheels, so I didn't have the stock wheel covers to use, and it's the only non factory part. I'll first post some pictures of how the car was when I bought it, and then the pictures of the finished product: New Old Model by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr New Old Model by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr New Old Model by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

johnz Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 i'm not a big fan of stock builds but i always love your work, they look as close to real cars as you can get!
Porscheman Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Beautiful build!!! I always loved the 62 with slant of the trunk for the tail light . Nice color too.
cobraman Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Love it ! I have a soft spot for these cars as my first car was a 62 Ford but a 4 door. Bought it from my folks for 50 bucks. 292 auto. Drove it for 2 years without any problems.
Lunajammer Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I like everything you did, paint, BMF, detailing and I especially respect that you left the factory features engraving on the bottom.
cruz Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Gorgeous build my friend, paintwork and details are top notch!
ChevyCoupe41 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Very nice build! Paint Job looks awesome. Nice Job!
smellyfatdude Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 What a gorgeous resto, and that's my dream build you did! I'd love to make one look like the ad pictured. You've come the closest . . . . . I'll take it.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Thank you my friends for the comments!! This Galaxie really hit a couple of soft spots on me. First, it's a Galaxie!! Second it's a original issue kit, and of a subject I think the guys at Round 2 should really reissue (so I could get the original hubcaps ) Thanks again folks!!
Lovefordgalaxie Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 I would love to see the promo reissued: 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr
1930fordpickup Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 My favorite big Ford from the sixties . This is a very nice looking model .
Guest Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Great looking restoration Tulio! You don't see many '62 Galaxie convertibles built. Especially this nice. I just bought a hardtop promo that I plan to restore soon. Right now, I'm working on a '60 Ford pickup.
1972coronet Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I like everything you did, paint, BMF, detailing and I especially respect that you left the factory features engraving on the bottom. I agree completely -- good call , leaving those 'annual' inscriptions on its chassis !
Lovefordgalaxie Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 I agree completely -- good call , leaving those 'annual' inscriptions on its chassis ! I would never remove the lettering from the chassis, it's a very cool touch!!! That screams "promo style" out loud :D I was disapointed with AMT's 1961 Ford Galaxie (the Styline kit) because they removed the lettering... For the ones wondering about the paint, I had it custom mixed in Vintage Burgundy: 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Thanks again for the comments!!!
