Agent G Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Harry it's hard but if I had to pin point just one thing, the '90's vettes lacked "character". To me they were like every other American auto back then, punched out of the same mold so to speak. G
sjordan2 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I know all about the cheesy GM-grade interiors and sloppy handling, etc. But ever since I was a kid I've wanted a Corvette. Maybe some day... a '68 Marina Blue with a white interior... I know all about the cheesy GM-grade interiors and sloppy handling, etc. But ever since I was a kid I've wanted a Corvette. Maybe some day... a '68 Marina Blue with a white interior... A '68 was the worst Corvette I ever drove because of the following -- I had it on approval from a dealer over a 3-day weekend. It was owned by the wife of race driver Hap Sharp, and had every possible option on it -- vinyl removable hardtop, AC, auto transmission, power seats -- everything that made it as heavy as possible. Couldn't lay rubber with it, and the body roll and brakes were terrible. Everything I've said about pre-92 Corvettes.
sjordan2 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Oddly enough, the '90s Corvettes are the ones I like least of all of them. But I still wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen driving one! Harry P. Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 A '68 was the worst Corvette I ever drove... I'm talking strictly styling. To me the '68 was the best one ever.

Styling, by itself, is a totally different subject. Give me a '63 split window anytime (though the phony hood mesh is a major faux pas.)
Draggon Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I think either this face painted whatchamacallit or the red "Ford" would be quite humiliating.

To me they were like every other American auto back then, punched out of the same mold so to speak. G Exactly what I was thinking. No panache, no bulging fenders or sexy curves... they were just... bland. Seemed more like a 2-seater Camry than a sports car.

Seemed more like a 2-seater Camry than a sports car. I agree that they looked bland, but oh mama...they were more go than show. However, mine was a black-on-black 6-speed, and drew more than a few inquiries.

sjordan2 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I thought this thread was about the most embarrassing cars to drive... My point was, as I stated above, that before 92 Corvettes were an embarrassing choice for hard-core sports car drivers.
Harry P. Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Give me a '63 split window anytime (though the phony hood mesh is a major faux pas.) Put a '63-'67 next to a '68-'69 and you tell me which is the cleaner, more evolved design? The split window was nothing more than a cheap Bill Mitchell styling gimmick. It was unique, granted, but did nothing for the styling. Take the split window away and you have a cleaner, better design, IMO. But still nothing like the '68. That was one slick looking 'vette. Best one ever, IMO.

To me, that series of Corvettes looks like cheap skunkworks kit cars like the Bricklin, and definitely not evolved. Edited August 10, 2013 by sjordan2
Agent G Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Mine was white with red interior, 6 speed, and would really go if necessary. Trouble was it didn't look fast when parked...................... G

Seemed more like a 2-seater Camry than a sports car. That's exactly what the C5's are to me, compared to the C1-C4 and the C6 and C7, those were just boring to look at.
Nick F40 Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 any car with a diesel or a prius....or automatic lol.....I like excitement when I drive
Lownslow Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 That's exactly what the C5's are to me, compared to the C1-C4 and the C6 and C7, those were just boring to look at. This and the super crappy interior seals the deal
Dragfreak Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I can't believe the H2 is on the list, they must have interviewed all girls for that to be one
Modelmartin Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Interesting thread here. I would venture that when opinions differ that the car in question is not a total stinker. I kind of like the Juke for it's quirkiness. I like most of the Scions except the newer B. I do like the Kia Soul but I think it needs smaller diameter wheels!!! I can not understand why the Chevy SSR is on that original list. It is a loud but very wild and fun vehicle. It is certainly not embarassing to be seen in one. I think we ALL can agree that the most embarassing vehicle to be seen in or to be known as the manufacturer of is the Pontiac Aztek - Buick Rendezvous! Also embarassing were those Pinto "Cruising Wagons" of the 70s - Sure! Cash in on the Van fad with a sub-compact. Ford also had those silver and flat black Mavericks. I would be embarassed to be seen in a Delorean, a Hummer, most jacked up 4WD trucks, and on any Harley!!!
disabled modeler Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 To me it would be the ones that leave you stranded at the middle of a very busy intersection or something painted pink.
Ridgeback Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 To me it would be the ones that leave you stranded at the middle of a very busy intersection or something painted pink. Both boxes ticked
Rob Hall Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Going off that list, I'd never drive a Hummer, but I have driven many Town Cars and an Escalade, though..they are great for road trips..big, comfortable, old-school Americana.

I guess all of this is based on opinion because a lot of people would not be embarrassed at all to be in a delorean or a 4x4 or a hummer, my dad was a in the military and being around the H1's all the time hes fond of them and he likes them and both of us would love to have a H1 , heck I would take one over my chevy Luv Edited August 13, 2013 by Dragfreak
Dragfreak Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I don't understand how any man would be embarrassed to be in one, I get if you didn't like the looks of it but it definitely doesn't look embarrassing
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 You kind of have to wonder why they make some of these vehicles. It should cost no more to make a good looking car than it does to make an ugly one. No ? Amen, brother.
