Fisher61 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 That is really cool! Alot of thought and work went in to " scaling up " an Amt '40 Ford! Foiling that trim on that Ford would be a breeze in 1:1 scale !
Phil Patterson Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Artfully done! I'd have love to have seen that in person!
Luc Janssens Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 This is really cool!! More HERE. Indeed, Mat Irvine showed something simmilar in his automotive column Freewheeling inside Scale Models International in the early 90s. If I remember correctly it was in a GM showroom in New York, where they showed the GMC Cyclone and other cars and parts, as they were 1:1 model kits µ of Revell, Monogram, Amt and Testors. Events like that show that at one point in time the whole automotive bizz activly supported the (car) model companies, and in turn they did their best to promote thier product through the kids of the potential customer. The promo biz will never come back, but from what I learned there's one manufacturer who again works closely togeather with a model company to show off it's products to kids young and old.... Luc
James W Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Is that the new Merc kit in the background? That is very well done. I like the box.
Lyle Willits Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 This photo, and a few others with different views circulated around the net about a year ago. Many people believe it is a Photoshop excersize. No one yet has been able to track down anyone who was actually at this car show and has actually seen this display. It may be real,,,,or maybe not. I really don't know.
FloridaBoy Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 That is one heck of an illusion. I have looked at it many times and still trying to figure it out. The "table scene" is quite obviously a model, while the bottom two pictures look like a 1:1 scale display, with the "models" and props blown to correct proportions. I still have one "40 Ford Coupe kit from the original run from 1960, and in that box, unbuilt and on the sprues, and it looks like the fender unit on all pictures was modified to cut out the plastic behind the grille and taillights. Got me hornswoggled. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willamani
Andy Wyatt Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 What do you use to get the lid off the paint jar when it's painted shut?
wagonmaster Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 What do you use to get the lid off the paint jar when it's painted shut? A really BIG pair of pliers. Looking at the seats they look kind of fake to me. just something about them doesn't look right. Tim

No one yet has been able to track down anyone who was actually at this car show and has actually seen this display. It may be real,,,,or maybe not. I really don't know. If this is an exercise in photoshop, it's probably the best one out there. I've been studying these pics for a while and I can't see anything out of place. One of the shots you can see someone inside the stanchions around the "model". The same shot has a cooler in the foreground that just looks too good to be faked. I am not an expert, just a skeptic so don't take my word. Decide for yourselves, but I'm convinced it's real. Man, this isn't even the ROM forum and we've got an unofficial one here! Wait, where's Harry? He's our resident "expert" on these things, right?
