TooOld Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Looks great Jim !! I like what you did on the sides and the engine upgrades are great too ! I've got a couple more of these kits , I guess I should build another one .
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thanks, Bob. I was trying to make the side pods but they came out too flat. Next time I'll try another method to get a bulge in them. I have a set of big paddle tires that I need to use on one these too.
Porscheman Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Nice job Jim!!! I also like the upgrades, especially the Mustang tail lights.
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thanks, Al. The intake manifolds and Weber carbs came from the parts box and the air filters are items I cast for Crazy Scale Auto Parts. The taillights are from the '66 Mustang kit. I casted them too so I'd lights for the Mustang when I build it.
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thanks, Lee. It's after 1pm and I need to get out to the shop to continue work on a '62 Tbird, '99 Silverado, and a '34 Ford pickup.
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thanks, fellas. The body is painted with HOK snowhite pearl.
PatW Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well done Jim. Nice colour, finish and engine and rims. I can see what you were trying on the sides. I tried thin plasticard to try and make the side pods. That didn't work either. These are the side pods I was trying to copy......... And I'm still trying!
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thank you, Patrick. Those are the side pods I was trying for. I wish I would have that pic to go by. I'm going to try and save your pic for reference purposes.
Harry P. Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 This would be the perfect model to use some of that out-of-scale "bass boat" metalflake paint.
crazyjim Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 You're probably right, Harry, but I don't have any of that stuff. Besides that, dune buggies are so old now that not many of the original gel coats are around so most buggies need to be repainted.
realgone58 Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Jim, that looks great! Love the Mustang tail lights on there and your license plate is a nice touch. Engine looks good. I didn't have the patience to wire mine! But I did use the big out of scale bass boat flake however.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 JIm, why don't you shape the side pods from a block of wood or Super Sculpy and cast 'em in resin. I'm sure that there are others who would like to have a set.
crazyjim Posted August 12, 2013 Author Posted August 12, 2013 Well Don, I'm not a wood carver and I have never used Super Sculpy. I sure would like to pop some in resin though.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I've got a buggy here.....I'll mock a set up in clay, you can tweak and cast 'em. I'll bring them to our next meeting along with the 1/12th FLH 1200 engine parts I mentioned.
crazyjim Posted August 12, 2013 Author Posted August 12, 2013 Sounds like a plan. That would be the FAST meeting on September 7, 2013 at the Hobby Lobby in Ocala at 10am? (Hint, hint to others).
