smellyfatdude Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A recent acquisition. Primed and sealed. Painted, w/Duplicolor Victory Red, after foiling the Sunliner scripts and G-A-L-A-X-I-E lettering. I'll let it gas out, then try the Tamiya clear on the hood . . . . . . . . . . . . . (crossing fingers)
bbowser Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Can't wait to see it SFD, I know you'll do it justice.
george 53 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Isn't it NICE when ya finally BUILD that old kit?!? Oh yeah, thats gonna be a nice one for sure!
IMPALASS89 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 nice I like the color what color is the interior going to be??
cobraman Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I will be watching this for sure. My first car was a 62 Ford but not a cool convertible. It was a baby blue 4 door I bought from my folks for 50 bucks.
Guest Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The color looks nice D.W.! Is that the up top I see peeking up out of the box?
Joker Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The color looks nice D.W.! Is that the up top I see peeking up out of the box? agreed... but..what's in da box? interested in seeing the custom pieces from these old kits
smellyfatdude Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I LIKE IT, more please!! Lol, well nothing else has been accomplished. But here's another shot, with a little more subdued lighting. I think it shows off the true color a bit better. And yes, that is the uptop you see in the box. Before final assembly, I may just take some shots with the uptop, first. I already trimmed and sanded where necessary, so there's a good fit on the windshield frame. The interior will be red/white. And I'm going to put a dab of glue on those axles, this time. No more rolling off the hood of the car, while I'm trying to take pics!
Phildaupho Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 It is great to see a '62 Ford being built as now I think they are pretty cool which is certainly not the way I felt about them between 1962 and 1967. My parents bought a new biege 4-door sedan Galaxie 500 with clear plastic seat covers. They still had it when I got my drivers licence in 1965. It had the smallest displacement V-8 with a 2 barrel and sounded like a vacuum cleaner when you floored it. I guess that is why I never had the urge to to build a '62 Ford kit back in the day. I have to say I was very impressed with my dad when he traded it in for a new '67 Mustang notchback.
smellyfatdude Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 sounded like a vacuum cleaner when you floored it. Reminds me of my sister's ' 72 Vega wagon. If you mashed the pedal, all it did was make some horrific noise. The thing would barely move any faster. Here's the body clear coated with Tamiya TS-13. Had to get all the paint off of the scripts, first.
charlie8575 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Nice color choice. I like the early 1960s big Fords. Very clean, nicely-designed cars. Charlie Larkin
smellyfatdude Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Here's the white base coat on the interior, and the chassis all decorated. I left the promo style engraving of all the cars features 100% intact. Next, mask the interior portions that will remain white, and spray the red. Yesterday,I picked up some Testors Dark Red to do the flocking.
smellyfatdude Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks, slusher. The interior is painted, now. Just needs a light misting of clear in a day or so.
Tompidom Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Nice interior. Will look great with the body color!
smellyfatdude Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Here's a quick mockup I did, after having to retouch some of the paint and clearcoat again. The tires are from the AMT ' 61 Galaxie re-issue. And here's a couple shots of the body, all foiled.
peekay Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Looking good - you don't see that kit too often.
charlie8575 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Very nice work on that, Darcy. This will be a very nice car when it's finished up. Charlie Larkin
smellyfatdude Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 The interior is finished, finally. I added foil to the seats and panels for the silver piping, and foiled and painted as much of the other details as I could. That's Testors dark red over the embossing powder/flocking. A little bit more work should wrap this one.
Ford guy Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Looking really good SFD. Love the red on red........sweet!
