I want to do my best on these models, I am improving, even being a bit down at times, And I learn so much from all of you. I can't say thanks enough.

Having servived the big C twice(once in my 20's and again in my 50's) I will tell you that a large percentage of the battle is staying strong and positive mentally. This is not easy to do when you feel totally beat down by the chemo and the rest of the issues but it is a must do. When you really don't feel like it, get up and move. When you really don't want to get out of bed, get up and do something. When you feel like giving up, find someone who has beat it to talk to. It is the challenge of a life time for many and surviving is a matter of will. Stay strong Jonathan.

Well, I'm car shopping once again. So I was checking out ads on Craigs List, Auto Shopper and eBay Motors.... so what irks me? Car dealers....

Maybe someone who works in that industry can explain this one, but what drives me silly are...

+ Ads that don't list a price

+ Ads that list a fictitious price, you know the tiny little asterisk that says in microscopic text "price after $2,000 down payment"

+ Ads that list only a monthly payment, not a price (some of us are paying cash!)

+ Ads that don't list the miles on the car, that includes the latest phrase "nice miles", or "low miles" and it ONLY has 100,000 on it

Or ads that omit several of the above.... no price, no miles... all you know is that this dealer indeed has a 2006 Chrysler 300... who the heck calls on ads like that?

I called a dealer on a 2006 Chrysler 300 with 30,000 miles they had listed for $9999, he verified they had it. I get there... no car! Salesman is not upset, he immediately tries to switch me to something else, all the time asking "how much a month do you want to spend?"

Or the supposed "one price -- no haggle" dealer where the salesman immediately slashes $1000 off the price... is it 'no haggle' or is there much more room in the deal?

Sooo... am I the only one who gets ticked off at all this bull.

Car shopping is a pain but used car shopping is worse in my opinion. They don't give you much info hoping you will call and or come in. Bait and switch is a big ploy they like to use. Just like the new car sales where they list a very good price but of coarse the car is always sold. Did you try a search on "Car Gurus " ? I like them for a used car search. Try them if you have not yet. Good luck in your quest !

I thought that you just got your Grand Caravan fixed up, no?

I did and it's going great. At 195,000 miles I don't depend on it as my daily driver. And it gets like 18 mpg. It's the third car and available for hauling and when we have a bunch of people to take somewhere. It also has a built in handicap seat that was for my father in law. We no longer need that since he passed 2 years ago. That seat is the reason we kept the '96 all these years.

Last November I bought a 2006 Buick LaCrosse with 30,000 miles on it for the wife to drive. It now has 34,000 miles and is our long distance family car so we can drive back and forth between PA and NJ in comfort.

I use the '99 Plymouth Breeze for my 120 mile round trip commute (I'm fortunate that I only go in the office 2-3 times a week), it gets an average of 26 mpg, but is starting to nickel and dime me. I'm thinking it's time to get a better daily driver.

You are right. With new car shopping you can look up the numbers and determine the bottom line. It's no secret that new car dealers make more on their used car lot. You cannot determine what their cost base is on a used car, how much they paid at auction, or how bad they screwed someone over on a new car deal. In those deals where some poor soul paid full list for a new car, and got $2000 trade in for the car the dealer is asking $6000 for, that person essentially got nothing for their trade in, since a good negotiator would have gotten $2000 off list on the new car.

So if someone comes onto the lot and pays the $6000 asking price on the used car, that's all gravy. Negotiations on a used car are a game of chicken and you never know if you left money on the table.

Years ago I worked for a new/used car dealership...many times you think your getting something from your trade-in but sometimes your just giving it to them in reality...its a paperwork game.

My local parts house switched over to Dupli Color paints. Now, I have to find another place that sells it and it sure won't be local.

Got up this morning to find my garage roof collapsed from the snow and then heavy rain....my Corvair is a total, my 9N looks to be maybe okay but can't get in to assess the damage...... :(

Two days after I got the P551 code on the PT Cruiser from-hell beaten into submission by correcting rodent-chewed wiring AND replacing the sensor, the little beast decided to put up a P420 code, which is "inefficient catalyst". These two are in no way related, and the 420 is most likely because the cat was damaged by the owner running the thing for a year with an internal coolant leak. I've built the top-end, it runs beautifully now, doesn't overheat or anything else nasty, but it looks as though the cat may have to be replaced to pass this state's idiot OBD-only (no sniffer) emissions test.

I've had bad luck with cheap aftermarket cats...some of them so poor they won't keep the 420 code from triggering even when they're brand new. A decent name-brand cat is expensive, and the Mopar part is insane. Vehicle owner is running on empty financially after her place of employment burned down.

Bugger.

I DO know one last little magic trick for this...we shall see.

What irked me today and everyday is people walking with their cell phone and not watching where they're going.

While waiting at a light this afternoon, I saw someone walk across the street on a No Walk sign whilst playing with their phone and almost get hit...never looked up, kept going..

I know a magic trick for this too.

..It was the kind of stuff you see on TV: A "Customer" at the facility I work at decided that since there was NO way he could get a transfer to another Facility because he was in The Hole (Nobody would take him) and he would have to commit the desperate act of attacking the next person he saw in order to get out the hard way. Guess who it was? It came out of nowhere and, honestly, took me by surprise. I am OK. He never got his transfer out. He never had a chance because Blue Always Wins. However, I will be investigated to ensure that no rights were violated while I was being attacked. Ain't life grand?

A Ebay seller did more than irked me a few days ago.

did the seller send you a 1/32 scale Corvette kit when you bid/won a 1/25 scale snap together Corvette kit? ;)

it was just the opposite for me.

I've been down with a miserable case of the flu for 3 days. Everybody has had it around me this winter & I figured by now I beat the odds. But no such luck.

Good to hear you are safe. IAD investigations over the most routine of incidents are a pain, but hey it's the world we live in now. Like I tell my troops, be safe, be professional, do your job and do whatever it takes to get home to the family.

Nah, it has nothing to do with the hobby, it was listing stuff they do not actually have.

I would be just as upset if I was sent the wrong scale, I hope you get it worked out.

Sorry to hear. Thank you for doing the thankless job. My only view is watching Locked Up on MSNBC and it's a whole 'nuther world. I wouldn't be able to deal with that.
