Here's a funny story... more ironic than funny, but true...

Years ago I had a Dodge Stealth. Best car I had ever owned up to that point. A lady in a minivan made a left turn as I was approaching at about 45-50 mph. She made her left turn when I was so close that I had no chance in the world to stop or swerve... I literally plowed right into her. Naturally her excuse was she didn't see me coming. Right.

Obviously she was the driver at fault and she got the ticket, etc... but my car was totaled.

And here's the ironic part. Several days later I went to the yard where the remains of my car was being stored, in order to remove some personal items (CDs, etc.) before the car was scrapped. But before I went to the yard I stopped in at McDonald's to get a cup of coffee. And as I was driving in the parking lot heading for the exit, a guy backs out his parked car and slams right into my rental car! He tore the whole rear bumper off the car.

What are the odds?

Its just my own guess, but it was probably him playing on said phone and not paying attention that caused the wreck. They can check his cell phone records to confirm. I think they all do that now as SOP.

I dunno. Guy was all over the board, saying my truck looked like carp anyway and a few dents didn't matter. Like THAT was supposed to excuse it somehow. Then started in telling me his vehicle couldn't possibly have broken my mirror because there was no black paint from mine on his.

The collision is one thing. Behaving like a 5-year-old and trying to dodge responsibility is something else entirely. This was a professional adult male, well over 50. What a "man".

If they check his cell record and find he has yapping or texting on his phone at the time of the wreck, he's toast. Not only will his insurance, provided he HAS insurance, will spike. AND he'll receive a ticket for reckless op, which stays on his record. I drive an older truck myself, just because of azzclowns like him.

Jerks like that are why I sold my Harley in 2005 and doubt I will ever have another bike.

I hear that Ray, Arizona is hard on bike riders, no idea why.

One time I pulled up behind a minivan on my RD400 and noticed they had a "start seeing motorcycles" bumper sticker so I tried to get the driver's attention to give them the thumbs-up, but they were too busy diddlin with their mobile phone to notice me.

At that point I think my head would have exploded...especially since I probably would have had the hot coffee dump in my lap when the rental was hit. :D

I don't think cops have the time and resources to check someones cell record for such a minor accident.  I believe they need a court order.  If there was a fatality they'd do it for sure.   I think Bill was in the guy's blind spot  and he didn't double check.  Bill, put in a claim against his insurance. Just to be paid for the inconvenience.

One time I had a young lady in a Mustang slide into the back of my LTD II on ice.  I looked and there was just a little dimple in the rear bumper so I told her it was okay and went on my way.  Later on I get contacted by the local PD that I was being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.  She reported the accident because she wanted the minor damage fixed on her car.  I went down to the PD and they saw fit not to charge me once I explained what happened.  And the cop said I should file a claim against her, so I did.  Collected $500 for that little dimple.

Bill had mentioned that the guy was threatening to call his lawyer. Well the cops may not mess with it, but a lawyer most certainly will if he/ she see's money in it. Lawyers can be a real pain, but they they also know the ins and outs of the law. Should Bill be so disposed to go that route and deal with the POS on his own terms they can most certainly get a "court order" for said cell phone records. Not to mention most new cars have the automotive worlds version of a black box. Long story short, if they want the info bad enough and want to prove a point. They will get that info. Myself, if the little azzclown wants to spout off at the mouth, i personally would call him on it. And since Bill was the one who got hit, I would think he's in the clear here. Too many times in situations like this, people resort to the "lawyer" trump card to try and intimidate the other party into either taking responsibility for the wreck, or paying for it out of pocket. Some joker tried that with my wife not too long ago, and now my wife has a new car in the driveway, and that individual no longer has a valid drivers license.

What irked me today?

I went to my LHS to pick up the new Revell '30 ford coupe, only to see the last copy being lifted off the car kit shelf by another customer as I turned into that isle. For a short moment I considered the pros and cons of attempting a hit-and-run, but thought better of it. I'm  still annoyed though.

They all threaten to call their lawyer. Most of them don't even have lawyers!   I do believe Bill is in the clear since the cop gave the other driver a ticket.  Often the officer at the scene of an accident will decline to find fault, telling you to let the insurance companies figure it out.  Then the person at fault's company starts to play games and that's down the road to no good.

Yep. Living that one as we type. Older woman turned left right in front of my wife. Bright sunny day, bright red Pontiac Grand Am, Not another soul behind my wife in traffic, but this old lady just HAD to turn first. Two surgeries, years of physical therapy, and mountains of medical bills. I DID call our lawyer, and we are suing the insurance company, due to the fact that this lady had 3 (!) previous accidents in that past month alone, and the Highway Patrol ordered that she have her licence suspended till such a time as she could be tested for competency after the first wreck. She was sighted for wreckless op all 3 previous times, but the insurance company sat back and did NOTHING. The DMV yanked her license after the first wreck, but evidently the DMV and insurance company don't talk, because she caused a further 2 wrecks resulting in injuries. Our lawyer has 3 different signed affidavits from the Highway Patrolmen who were at my wifes wreck that stated the older woman shouldn't have even been driving!!! Its been 2 years since the wreck. I won't ever call it an "accident" because it was anything BUT. It may sound cruel, but i hope if that lady is still on the road, that the NEXT person she pulls out in front of is driving a SEMI...

A semi-automatic "assault" spatula like that one would allow you to make too may pancakes at one time... an obvious threat to society. Nobody needs more than one pancake at a time... :P

"Semi-automatic assault spatula" is a phrase you just don't hear very often.

On the other matter, the jackazz's last word at the scene...after he was given the citation...was that he'd be paying me for the damage out of his own pocket. I have a feeling I'll never see a cent, but I'll go through the motions of getting a real estimate anyway. I DON'T want anything other than my truck put back the way it was. A used mirror, the dents and misalignment on the fender and door repaired and only put in primer, and a front end alignment, including replacement of anything that's bent (she pulls to the left now). I also think I busted a couple of cords in the LF tire going over the curb, as there's a thumping vibration that honestly wasn't there before.

My truck may look like carp, but mechanically it's just fine (or was, anyway).

I took lotsa photos of both vehicles at the scene, their orientation before we moved them off the street, and closeups of the damage.

I'm just so frigging tired of always having to fight being screwed for something that wasn't my fault. We'll see what happens.

think of the carnage if he set it to full automatic.   ;)

good luck Bill, even if you don't "stick it to them" at least make them compensate you enough to get your truck back to how you had it.

I got rear ended once at a signal intersection and the judge forgave the person that hit me just because there was gravel due to construction, that was just wrong in my opinion due to the fact that I was able to stop without hitting the person in front of me while in the same construction area, I don't care if my car wasn't new...I didn't have to replace the bumper before I got hit!

This is not something that irked me specifically today, but I just thought of it.

Some people's emails have a very annoying tag on the end. Things like "This was sent from my Verizon 4G smart phone", "This was sent from my super iPhone5", "This was sent from my wonderful Apple iPad", or similar.  I really don't give a rat's-a$$ what device you are sending your email from!  To me this is just gloating about how much of a technology-whore you are.  Oooooh, I have a wonderful iPad!  Fine, you can sit on it!  All I care about is the meaningful contents of your email - I don't need to know how you sent it.

This was sent from my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Dell Optiplex, Win XP SP3, Seamonkey 2.33.1 :D

I like technology too, but Peteski's POINT was the idiotic suffixes added to emails automatically by a lot of these devices: "Some people's emails have a very annoying tag on the end. Things like "This was sent from my Verizon 4G smart phone", "This was sent from my super iPhone5".

Just another irritating instance of the marketing dwerbs having to stick their tiny little protuberances in everything every chance they get.

Somebody somewhere must think recipients of mail tagged with this carp will have to rush out and buy the thing because somebody else has it.

Pathetic.

The Coverage of the 24 Hour Le Mans Race. Starts off 1 hour after the race started, 2 segments startd with 1/2 hour of Mixed Martial Arts (I guess) and the last 2 hours got zapped be some Golf match. Maybe they did, but I don't recall seeing any update to the Sched during the Race. But even if they did the Golf thing coulda been shown on FS2 so those that had taken the time to set Recorders a week earlier could have watched the Parts of the race they chose to show us..................
