Pete J. Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Frikin week four and I am ready to kill someone. My license is suspended because I passed out and went to the hospital and the Doc has to file a report with the DMV. Stuck at home or going when someone else can drive me. You really don't know what it is like to rely on someone else for transport until it happens. Two more months of this BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH!
High octane Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Pete, I do know what it's like to have to rely on other people to get around as 4 years ago I had to "hang up" my keys for 6 1/2 months because of an health issue. Stop cryin' as everybody has troubles at some time or other. Some troubles more than yours, and some less.

Ramfins59 Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I haven't driven a car since I had my stroke back in June of 2000 and had left side peripheral vision loss. I had a small fender bender because I didn't see a car on the left. Since then either my wife, daughter or friends have driven me wherever I've needed to go. I used to own a '59 Dodge Coronet and went to cruise nights 4 nights a week before the stroke. I had to sell the car since I wasn't driving it anymore. I miss that car terribly, and also miss the independence and freedom that driving gives you. I felt it was better to not take a chance on killing me or anyone else by continuing to drive.
High octane Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Wow Richard, that must have been hard to get used to. Sorry to hear that you had to let the car go also, as I would surely miss mine if I ever had to give it up.
disabled modeler Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 X 2 from me Richard... I had to sell off a lot to pay on the medical bills some after my accident...I think it hurt more? had to get rid of these...75 Trans AM29 Ford coupe3 old hemi engines...354ci,and 2 392s.house and businessetc. It was very tough to do let alone I cant see myself not being able to drive somehow but I applaud you for taking the action yourself to stay safe and keep others that way.
Pete J. Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I guess I am lucky because the suspension is not permanent. This is my 5th cardiac "event" and I have had 4 battles with the big "C" not to mention other trips to the surgical suite to fix an umbilical hernia and get the gall bladder out in my 65 years, but this is the first time they suspended my license and the Doc says I am ok to drive but the state disagrees. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but I am still getting cabin fever. I am using UBER when I have to be somewhere but the more frequent trips to places I enjoy have stopped abruptly. It is an abrupt change and very uncomfortable, especially then I feel fine.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I really feel for you guys who can't drive. Seriously. There were a few weeks a while back when I had nothing running, and being dependent on friends, co-workers, taxis and the ol' feet and bike gets real old, real quick. And Pete, I hope all goes well and you're back behind the wheel ASAP.
disabled modeler Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Pete...I hope you get to drive again soon too...after my accident I could not get behind the wheel for about 2 years and had to work my way up slowly. Now there are some that just should not drive like the 18 year old kid that hit me at the stop light...he was going at least 60 in a 30 at a red light, playing with the radio, ect. in his stepmothers car...or at least he needs to learn from it. My 83 Trans Am was a restored one I did myself with 33,000.miles on it I had a ton of money in it...after the accident it was 4 foot shorter on the drivers side rear the rear drivers wheel was still attached to the axle which both came into the car from underneath the rear seat hitting me in the back of the head braking my neck and lower back. Many people have to adapt or overcome challenges it just takes time if put in the position to. Good luck...patients is a key.
dartman Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Everything......it's been one of "those" days......
High octane Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Drivers sitting at an entrance to parking spaces and not pulling out as I was waiting for him to. Of course he also had a phone to his ear too. Some people are WAY to busy or stupid to be sitting in a car behind the steering wheel.

Some people are WAY to busy or stupid to be sitting in a car behind the steering wheel.Or my favorite, you are backing out of a parking space, and some idiot is so impatient he can't wait a second or two for you.. and continues to drive behind you, so confident that you will see him and stop! I'm gonna clobber one of these guys someday just for the heck of it.
Tom Geiger Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I was in New Jersey Friday thru today. Daughter the younger, immediately grabs me, "Daddy my car is making a noise." Quick run around the block reveals that it needs brakes. We run it up to my friend's garage and he agrees to get it done today. End result, all four brakes... daughter of course has no money so it's Dad to the rescue! Not that I mind, that's part of the privilege of being a father! Can't complain about the car either. 2012 Fiat 500 that she's managed to put 57,000 miles on since she bought it new. This is the first time we've done brakes. In fact the car was only back to the dealer once for a recall inspection on the airbag. This is the first time it's been to a shop, other than changing oil regularly.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I'm gonna clobber one of these guys someday just for the heck of it. I'd pay a hundred bucks to see that.
Tom Geiger Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I'd pay a hundred bucks to see that. I used to drive demo derby with Dave Burket back in the 1980s... that was one of my favorite moves. There is nothing like the feeling of seeing a car in your rear view mirror, hitting the gas and aiming for it. I could claim flashback as my defense?
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I could claim flashback as my defense? Were you doing acid at the time, or have you been treated for PTSD? If so, rock on, brother.
disabled modeler Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Tom....I like it when someone in a mini or very small car thinks there going to go head to head with my truck a 84 Chevy 4x4 with snowplow...ok little car with person with big tude move it if you think you can....
blunc Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 now I know Arizona and car batteries don't get along well so I shouldn't have been surprised (or irked) but what did irk me was how much I had to remove/loosen/bend/"abuse the heck out of" to get the dead battery out of my 96 Century "people mover".and oh yeah....the door mirror "post retaining clip" (that lets you rotate the fancy mirror flat to the door instead of breaking it off) in the on my wife's Honda decided to fail and the mirror was flopping around. After a couple hours outside in 105deg temps of trying to get that forever to be damned clip forced back down onto the post (which had the electric mirror adjusting wires going through the middle of it) I got the clip down onto the post but as I released the clamping tools the clip came right back off. At that point I said screw it...so that's what I did, that part of the assembly no longer swings in or out since it's now screwed together till it gets bumped too hard, then I'll go buy another mirror.
Harry P. Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 How did we ever cope with non-swinging mirrors back in the day?
slusher Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Went to Hobby Lobby Saturday and sold out of the 57 Del Rio, 29 Fords and Snap Corvettes. You would think they would keep more then 2 each of new kits on the shelf. That guy who buys kits there probably already has them on ebay. He comes in and buys kits with his family and resells them and he gets 40 percent of each kit...

BIGTRUCK Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This is an everyday IRK . How many things do you pick-up and hold everyday....many right? With me I pick up an item and never think about it, but if its a model part odds are it could wind up on the floor, not just on the floor, I may have to get on all 4s to find it, if I can find it. Well thats my self rant / irk for the day.

I hate when small people think they're smart and that they've found an angle... and how much trouble is it to drag the entire family there for what, a $10 profit a kit? Man, we're gonna be millionaires and we're gonna do it the slooooo way!
