Ace-Garageguy Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I just never imagined so many females having the name "Marlin" though "marlin" "marilin" Gotta watch those pesky extra letters.
cobraman Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Checked the tracking numbers on my incoming ebay purchases and one shows it was delivered yesterday. Did not get a thing. Friday we have a different carrier than normal and I don't have a lot of problems but when I do it is always a Friday. Going to the PO and see whats going on. Good luck to me.
jrherald420 Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 But if you never ask, how will one ever find a killer deal?
disabled modeler Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 People who want to trade a $20-25 model for a $40-40 kit that also has a $20+ resin cockpit update set in it. I can understand your point of view here Lee....sometimes people are just hoping for a deal or think maybe the other is just tired or not interested in the item there wanting to try and get? There are many kits/models I personally value more than a high dollar kit due to my interests in it. I just traded a expensive rare resin kit of a couple of old promos and some people just do not care for promos at all...me I am different there...depending what there of I love them so I am very happy to make the trade deal. Now on the other hand I always try to keep things happy for both me and the other guy with a trade...both parties have to feel their getting a value from the deal at hand. I guess it depends on who wants what enough in the end?
High octane Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 That's why I do just about all my trading for ca$h. A lot of my kits are sealed and the buyer knows what he's getting. It's gettin' old putting money out for kits only to have them pile up higher and higher. I've been "thinnin' out the herd" for awhile now. Of course I'm still buildin' and buyin' an occasional model kit. By the same token, I don't need every kit in existence known to man, or kits for parts or kit bashing, that will probably never happen at the rate I finish kits.
Tom Geiger Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 People who want to trade a $20-25 model for a $40-40 kit that also has a $20+ resin cockpit update set in it. Fer Trade... 1. Set of old tires with gooey melted wheels in 'em. Some paint and glue on 'em. One got chewed a bit by my dog but is okay if you turn that inside. 2. 3 hubcaps. Don't know what they went to, still has some of the chrome on 'em. 3. Brush painted Palmer body. One side missing, build okay if you put that side against wall. I Need... MINT, SEALED ANNUALS.... 1969 Impala, 1967 Ford convertible
Tom Geiger Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Lol, that's about it! I dont mind taking the bite if it's something I really want, I have another trade in the works that favors the other guy, but for something so-so, just frustrating. I'll sweeten the pot! ONE of those tires is a whitewall!
Tom Geiger Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Yes, thin or wide? It makes a difference! Maybe this one? After looking at my builds I got to thinking that yea, I use mismatched beat to heck tires on my vehicles!
Tom Geiger Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 My irk of the day... a stupid company and the UPS! I ordered a neat logo imprinted item for NNL East. The order came on March 3, only they sent me the wrong order! I got the right item, but imprinted for a Yoga Studio in Virginia. The company sends me a prepaid label for the package. They tell me to hold onto the package and when UPS delivers my right order, the driver will pick up that package. Sounds easy. Only it never happened. So I email them last Friday the 14th and they tell me my package will be delivered on Monday the 17th. Great! I'll be working from home so I'll be here. So I wait.. and wait. No UPS! So I email them on Saturday asking where the heck is my order. They call me today and say that yes, my package was delivered on the 17th. She notes that UPS says delivery location was "Garage". I go look by the garage door, which I usually enter and exit the house by daily... and by chance I look under my parked car that hasn't moved... and yes. Not only is my soggy package there, but a few more pieces delivered later in the week (because they weren't wet) are there as well. So not only did the UPS idiot slouch out and not walk up to my front door (never mind his instructions were to pick up an outgoing package too), then he did a second delivery on top of the soggy package. Argh! So I've filed a complaint. Not much to do since the items were wrapped in plastic and were okay. Good thing because all the paper work in the box was wet. And we have the doo dads in time for the show.
cobraman Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Service just is not what it used to be. I still an having problems with my "Friday only" mail person. Lazy. lazy. lazy.
Austin T Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Saturday I won best Junior at the Birmingham Classic,an award that I was extremely honored to revive. Being as this is my last show in the junior category I was very happy to end the category on a positive note.Turns out a few guys on Facebook are claiming I'm 18 years old, which would put me out of the running as a junior. Tommy M. contacted me and asked me if I was really 17 and I told him it was true and he was really polite about it. The sad thing is I would almost bet money as to who did it. I Can't believe (Well I can) that some body would stoop that low to try and strip someone of an award the rightfully earned.
jrherald420 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 What a bunch of BS. PM me the details please.

I Can't believe (Well I can) that some body would stoop that low to try and strip someone of an award the rightfully earned. That's pretty low indeed. I remember when I was in high school a lot of my friends were athletes and in chorus or band- I'm not athletic and have no musical talent, but I stood by my friends in their endeavours. One of my buddies got a small award from the area sports writers- nothing huge, but a nice "it feels good to get recognized" type thing. Some idiot in our own school tried to get it reversed. It didn't work, but things like this have been happening since time immemorial. Some people are mindlessly jealous and all they can see is envy- when they don't see rage, and at all times, people like that see only varying shades of green. Don't let them stop you- now or in the future. Charlie Larkin
cobraman Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 My irk today was self inflicted . So I took off to Hobby Lobby. Needed some paint and some supplies for the diorama I am working on. As you know the paint is locked up so I get someone to come open the case. I pick up the paints I needed and hand them to the girl. At my HL at least an worker must take the paint up to the register area. So I continue to shop for a bit and head up front. I pay and grab some lunch on the way home. I get home and eat my lunch and then it's time to do some painting. Go through my bags and think....... where's the paint ? Oh no ! I never told them at the register that I had paint brought up. Had to go back. My fault to be sure but it still irked me.
High octane Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 At my local Hobby Lobby the paint is not locked up, and we're allowed to help ourselves and bring it to the checkout registers.
highway Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Passenger's side, where the firewall and framerail meet, by chance? If so, extremely common on the F/M/J bodies, due to all the detritus getting trapped there, then allowing the water to sit...plugged firewall flapper vents are very common, too. Close Casey, right area, wrong side, but I haven't been brave enough to look at the rest of the frame yet though. I figure since the mechanic that told me about that was also the one that was going to do the front end alignment until he also found I needed to replace the idler arm before it can be aligned, I guess mine wanted to be the opposite of the common place.
highway Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 What's up with that car? In one post you say it has 9,000 miles on it, so I'm picturing a cream puff. And now this rant? Actually, if I remember from earlier today, it is just over 8100 on the odometer. It had been sitting for a little while and not garage kept though before I bought it, but at $750 it was in my "NEED A CAR NOW" price range!
Greg Myers Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Congratulations Austin. Got any pictures of your BUILD ? Don't let the jealous naysayers get to you.
cobraman Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 So last Wednesday I take my truck in for brakes. Needed new rotors as the old ones could not be cut. All said and done 500 bucks. That's ok, truck is a 2002 with 82,000 miles so no big deal. Today I go out to my garage and see water on the floor. That's not good. Water heater shot. New water heater at Home Depot 300.00 bucks. Installation of said water heater 250.00. Another 500 or so bucks gone. I hope I will still have some cash to go to the show and swap next month.
High octane Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 New rotors at 82,000 miles? Guess I got lucky with my truck as I didn't get rear brakes and rotors 'til 121,000 miles and the front ones lasted 'til 127,000 miles.
Rob Hall Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) 82k is a long time on a set of rotors, seems to me...my Grand Cherokee got it's first set at 20k and a new set every 20-25k or so. Edited March 29, 2014 by Rob Hall
oldnslow Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Got a new company truck in 2010 (Ford E150), put 110,000 miles on it before it needed brakes or tires.
