You can never know with cats. Most of ours like chilling out in boxes or the laundry basket but we had one that always slept on the banister rail at the top of our stairwell with a 15 foot drop beneath him on one side. He never fell off, that we know of. He'd never have told us if he had - they are very proud.

I like to keep old model boxes 'cos they evoke the excitement of coming home and opening them for the first time. My son likes to keep old trainer boxes which to me makes no sense at all. But I never wore trainers.

I'd be happy to start saving mine for you as long as you cover the shipping, Peter.

Now that's an offer I would have been interested in before international postal charges went through the roof.

I should point out though that the boxes I've bought were all pre-1963 and in excellent condition. I might be mad but I'm choosy.

I save instructions but boxes very seldom. My choice is to flatten some of the boxes if I should ever need them for unforeseen reference.

I think my kitty is broken. She used to love lying around in model boxes. Then one day during the move, she took a boot to the head. Purely by accident I assure you. However, ever since then...well...see for yourself! This is how she prefers to sleep now.

I think your kitty just loves you, and sleeping with her head in your shoe lets her smell the object of her affection...kind of an olfactory warm-fuzzy. It's probably very comforting in a warped feline kind of way. The reason I think so is because my own cat (excuse me...people don't own cats...I'm her human) often prefers to sleep on my smelly sweaty work clothes.

And just where did you bury her body?

Lucky for her, I met a younger, prettier girl who'd work all night washing parts while I built engines. The murder of her predecessor, and subsequent unpleasantness, became un-necessary. B)

As far as the original topic goes, I usually keep old boxes to organize parts and other builds in. Happily for both of us, my cat has no interest in anything remotely model-related, and knows better than to get on the bench. Smart cat.

I used to joke that I had a couple of kids I kept in my basement to pull parts off trees and clean up mold lines... then that Ariel Castro guy actually kept kids in his basement and it wasn't funny anymore.

You're actually dead on! I happened to be holding her when her eyes opened and my vet says she's imprinted on me kinda like a duckling. She only needs to be near me and she starts purring. If I could only find a woman that likes me half as much... ^_^

Here's Xerxes the Magnificent trying out a Tamiya box:

And he's not a boxsteader (yes, that's the correct term). Being in boxes or other locations with all sides covered from attack is something all cats seek to some extent. Female cats are more prone to the behavior because they have to give birth to and then protect their kittens.

Oh, and I just flatten my old boxes and put them in the recycling bin.

That looks just like my Jerry l lost 6 years ago to the pet food thing. The best friend l ever had. l plan on getting another one some day.

l have three boxes l saved 2 with steve mcqueen and the manix with elvis on the box. l keep all my insructions in them. l put my boxes in the recycles...

The nice old boxes I like to use for wall decoration . They are my wall art along with a few car prints . Yes I am single, this is the good side of being alone in a house.

Cat allergy , so no fur balls around here . They are better pets than a dog. Less bother .

Carl. if you lived closer I would give you one of mine. I have 2. One follows me around like a dog and always greets me when I come home. The other hardly ever shuts up. : ) That's the one I would give to you !

Since we're sharing cat photos... my good friend Ted was under the weather earlier this week. He's now back to his old self and sleeping comfortably on the couch as I type this.

And before someone calls FOUL! on my post, Ted is an important model car hobby personality. That is HIM on the Model King box!
