Chuck Most Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 This started out as a promo- I added the wheels and tires from a Revell Impala police car and the CHP decals and equipment from a Revell '90 Mustang notch and threw together this phantom cop car because I was sort of bored that day... Still thinking of adding the spotlight, and possibly the lightbar from the Mustang as well. Any thoughts?
slusher Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Super nice build Chuck, l would add a light bar...
Agent G Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Nice! Not as "phantom" as one might think. At any given time CHP has test mules all aover the state for evaluation. Sometimes they are there simply to evaluate the power train, not the entire car per se. Sweet build. G
Erik Smith Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I think it looks good with no lightbar. Spotlight maybe, but keep the roof smooth.
the goon Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) Looks real to me (how fast was I going officer?) Mark Edited November 15, 2013 by the goon
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 That's pretty cool! Never thought to do a 90s regal like that
Skydime Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Good looking build. I'd definite add the spotlight and either the light bar or a push bar on the front.
Porscheman Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I like it!!! Gves me hope that you can make a beautiful replica once you change the terrible tires and wheels the came on it. Great build.
o-man Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 That's cool! Maybe mock it up with light bar or use rear deck lights from Mustang?
Joe Handley Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Nice! Not as "phantom" as one might think. At any given time CHP has test mules all aover the state for evaluation. Sometimes they are there simply to evaluate the power train, not the entire car per se. Sweet build. G Many years back, the Winfield, IL was using one or two of the 4dr Pontiac Grand Prix's from that version of the platform as well as the second generation Chrysler Concord sedans (why not the Intrepid, I have no clue), and even supposedly had a couple of the FWD Dodge Lancer Turbo Sedans. A few people who saw my Lebaron GTS (same car, different grill, tail lights, and badges) suddenly remembered those Lancers and seemed to kind of fear them too. They had been running Crown Vics last several years and just was a new Explorer with their graphics today.
Chuck Most Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 That's cool! Maybe mock it up with light bar or use rear deck lights from Mustang? The deck lights are there (they're barely visible in the rear 3/4 view). I mocked it up with the Mustang's roof bar, but didn't like it. I'm not sure if it was because I didn't like how the car looked with the lightbar or the way that particular light bar looked on the Buick... still toying with sticking it on there, though.
bbowser Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 That looks mean. I always liked that generation of Buick/Olds/Pontiac. Might do for a supervisor car or something, tough to cram a perp in the backseat I'd imagine.
realgone58 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Great use of one of those promos. Looks like something a low-budget department would paint up as a "DARE" car for displays. Very cool. It actually looks pretty good with those tires and wheels on it. I took one and did it stock with bigger white wall tires, I'll have to remember to grab some pics of it one of these days.
kilrathy10 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 This is a pretty cool looking car....They'd a busted me easily with this one....Don't think I would ever have recognized this silhouette in the rear view....
Danno Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Pushbar and spotlights, no light bar, and you've built a very credible slick-top. Nice.
Jonathan Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I love it! I had one of those - a 1990 Buick w/ the 3.1 engine, I think. It would have been a horrible cop car! Excellent work - it's really cool!
Chuck Most Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 I did go ahead and slap on some spotlights... they're from a Lindberg Crown Vic (Ohio State Police, I think.)
fantacmet Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I like it. Except for the color Tacoma Washington has had some of them. Of course they have a bit of everything up there, they blend in REALLY well. Maybe some interior mounted lighting equipment instead of a lightbar? Like an unmarked car might have. They do a lot of those here in Portland where I live.
Chuck Most Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 After letting it soak in, I'm officially going to call this one done. No roof lights, no push bar, just this. Thank you all for playing!
