Those poor folks living in the frozen tundras are going to hate you, Pete. Hope you get some rain soon.

In the 20's last night, tonight and tomorrow night again. I might have to move to the Keys for some warmth.

Ok, so much for the joke. If we don't get some rain in the next 8 days this will go down as the first January in history without rain. If this continues we are in for a really bad fire season and we will be shoveling ashes again and that is far worse that shoveling snow.

Hey Pete I think ya need to shovel, need to knock the cobwebs off that thing!!!!!  Lucky dog, wish I was shoveling sunshine!!!!!!

The shovel has been well used by me. I keep it in the back of the garage to remind myself of what I left behind. Moved here in '88 and that adds up to 35 years of shoveling and 26 years of no shoveling. I really don't miss it.

Me too Roy, as It's hard to imagine being in that wreck. Drivers and passengers hurt, stuck in their vehicles, bitter cold outside, they may be hungry, or need to use the facilities, the worries, their transportation wrecked, the need to call their families, to call their insurance companies, and the list goes on. My prayers will go out to them as well. It was a tragic and sad day on the highway today.

We had a rough winter last year.

It was five weeks long (daytime highs below 50 degrees) instead of the usual three weeks. And, it dipped below freezing (29 to 31 degrees) three nights, otherwise overnight lows around 35 degrees a handful of times. Had to scrape the frost off the windshield once.

A friend of mine is traveling through that area now, said he's seen more people spin out than he can count, even watched a Subaru Forrester land in the median after the driver lost control and couldn't collect back up.

That stuff has filtered down to NC. been above freezing once in last 3-4 days and a very light dusting of snow. Heard about that wreck this morning. Not good for at least three families.

I didn't hear about that one.. Whereabouts on I-94? Keep the families in thoughts and prayers!!!!!!

I'm sorry, it was near Michigan City Indiana.

The very ugly side of the "S" word, right?

The weird thing is, the blizzard conditions that caused that massive pileup was limited to a very small patch of NW Indiana, where they get a lot of "lake effect" snow (wind blowing from the north or northwest over the relatively warmer water of Lake Michigan causes the air to pick up moisture, which falls as snow when it hits land, but only in a very narrow band inland... just a couple miles inland). It wasn't snowing anywhere else in the whole metro Chicago area except for a few square miles there in NW Indiana,

Looks like another "beautiful day in da neighborhood" this morning, as I'll be gettin' dressed to swing that snow shovel and chase the Toro down the driveway. Wind chill is supposed to be pretty cold as well. Oh well, we're another day CLOSER to spring.

Just remember Nick, anything that's that much fun, has to be done in moderation. :D

We got a foot and a half last night here in West Michigan-here's a shot of my driveway

Oh that brings back bad memories of the years I was at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda. I just loved pulling alert in that BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH!

It's like a carrot dangling out in front of us, Nick...we just need to keep telling ourselves that! And we are gettin' closer!!

Another day, and I was slingin' da shovel and chasin' da Toro around again. We'll it IS gettin' closer to spring, so I shouldn't complain.

Antioch, Illinois got another 3+ inches. My brother-in-law says he's coming to Vegas as soon as possible. He's getting sick of the cold and wants to move by me. I'm wanting to move back there by them. Maybe we should switch?
